Default SoundBlaster fixes for Vista?

I installed Vista Home Premium today - clean install - so far (key words so far) the only glitches I have had are regarding my HP printer and my sound card

I have a all-in one printer - the printer and fax components are working fine but I am not able to install the software that allows me to setup preferences, view sent faxes, view received faxes etc... a very important part no less.

and re: sound I have no idea what is wrong here , I have a SoundBlaster sound card.

any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated

James you need to go to

http://193.95.171.83/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WE...om/,case=14186

I had the same problem with my Audigy 2 sound card. Windows showed no problems but I had no sound out of my speakers and could not configure a 5.1 setup until i downloaded the Creative drivers and software from the link above.

If you right click the install program (setup.exe or install.exe perhaps) you should be able to set a flag that will install the program as if it's running under XP, 2000, 98, etc. I think it's in properties but not certain. It's fairly obvious though.

Perhaps that will help you get going with the software.

Tx Congo -I actually spent 1 1/2 with HP tech support, and unfortunately for me I just happened to have gotten the wrong tech person, she made me do so many useless things (eg. my usb cable was too long so she made me try a shorter one - I wish I was kidding). I kept saying maybe this is a Vista issue and she would say no. Finally after my suggestion for the 100th time she went and asked someone else.

bottom line if you I have the vista disk has HP drivers for the fax and printer but an update for the "toolbox" which is what I was trying to re-install will not be available from HP for another 2 weeks or so.

James did you get 5.1 enabled on your Audigy? Let me know if you didn't.

James this is what i did

Setting-Control Panel-Sound

Playback Tab-Highlight Speakers-Click Configure

I believe you can choose which speaker configuration you have there and test the speakers as well. I am at work and do not have 5.1 so this is from memory. I will check tonight if that does not work for you.

Great -that did it. Tx again Quicksilver.

On another note - do you (or anybody using vista for that matter) find that occassionally you are unable to shutdown- it just hangs in the shutdown phase (little circle spinning - formerly sand timer)

This has happened a few times. It might be random but it seems to occur when new programs are installed but its too early to tell - eg. just installed quicken 2006, when asked to reboot , it hangs, waited 5 minutes but nothing so I just did a hard reboot.

Default Nvidia Faces Class Action Lawsuit Over Vista Drivers

Nvidia facing possible lawsuit over Vista drivers

Humphrey Cheung
February 2, 2007 17:54

Culver City (CA) - A group of Nvidia customers are upset over the company's lack of final Vista drivers
and are now threatening a class action lawsuit against the graphics card giant. The customers claim
that the cards don't adequately work with Microsoft's newest operating system and feel that the company
isn't being truthful about being "Vista Ready". One customer, who we can only name as 'Nathan', has
even created a website nvidiaclassaction.org and is seeking legal help for a possible lawsuit.

Default CoProcessor and Unknown Device drivers won't install

Picked up an OEM version of Vista Home Premium and did 2 installs. First was a clean install from within XP. I did the boot from dvd install to remove my a partition(XP recovery partition) on my notebook drive. Both time the install went without any problems. Once I got online I downloaded all the latest updates. Only missing drivers for 2 Other devices(CoProcessor and Unknown device). Anyone have an Idea how to figure out what these are?

Default HP LaserJet 1018 not working with Vista

Just picked up a new Acer computer from FS with Vista Premium loaded on it. Vista does not reconize my HP 1018 laserjet printer. I tried to add a printer, but Vista tells me that any USB print is setup automatically. When I try to install the printer using the disk that HP supplied it makes it about 1/2 through before Vista stops the install and says the driver will not load properly and that I should contact the printer manufacturer. Checked the HP download site, no sign of a Vista driver for this printer. I'm alittle surprised,, I know this is not an expensive printer, but I think it is still a current product and I would imagine there are lots of them out there. Guess I'll have to keep the old XP computer going for a while.

Checking the HP website I found this doc. I guess u just have to wait for the driver release from HP.

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...c00808536#ref3

Have you tried installing it as another Laserjet printer?

Here is a snippet

NOTE: If your printer currently uses either a PCL5, PCL6 or PostScript XP driver, you may download the current XP driver from HP to provide printing functionality. Windows Vista printing is very similar to Windows XP and most print drivers supported in XP environment for LaserJet printers may also work in the Windows Vista operating system.

Default GeForce 6600 GT good enough?

Is an NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT enough video card power to run Vista with all it's bells and whistles?

Default HP LaserJet

Thank for the info QuickSilver, I checked out the web-site. Not sure I understand about the XP driver working if the printer is PCL or Postscript, the driver that I tried to install from the disk supplied with the printer appears to be the same as the one on the web-site which would not load. If I get a chance I will try the XP driver from the site but I doubt it will work.
