I just switched from SHAW to MTS. Only because of the price. The interest is normally very slow. It goes from 150KBps to 250KBps. It is always slower at night between 7 and 10. It will be about 400KBPS during the mornings. I called MTS and they got me to verify the speed by going to their FTP and transfer a file. It was around 220KBps and they said it was average. Then I told them I was supposed to have 5Mbit and they said I should be a lot faster and they would have to send come out to fix it.
It happens on all 3 computers in the house and having the router plugged in does not make a difference. When I phoned Shaw to cancel the rest of my service they told me that MTS internet is only 1.5 Mbit when you’re using the modem inside the MTS TV receiver. And that the TV takes up the internet bandwidth. Is this true? But I am getting faster speeds at off peak times |

I have MTS High Speed Internet and MTS TV. Here's a speed test from a day or so back: Speed on MTS depends on a few factors, the primary one being your distance from the CO. MTS should come out and take a look. I've heard of people being "upgraded" to the Lightning Max speed, which brings them closer to what they "should" be getting if their speeds are too low. MTS should not have slowdowns at different times of the day, as it is DSL and does not suffer from node-overload as Shaw/Cable internet does. I suspect either regular net traffic, or malware, or perhaps other issues. MTS, in any case, should come and take a look. Keep us updated. |

It might help to tell us what you are comparing from? Are you on MTS? Do you have MTS TV?
Also, how are you getting such high upload speeds? |

This all seems very strange. The most I’ve even gotten on any speed test was around 3500 with uploads Kbps around 650Kbps. Based on speedtest.net. But most of the time it’s around 2000Kbps and even less. MTS was supposed to call me back to arrange someone to come down to take a look. (They had made an appointment but later called me back and told me they system was down and someone would call me back to arrange a time.) Never Happened. I guess I’m a little upset because when the installer was installing everything I showed him how slow the net was and he said something was wrong. And that he couldn’t fix it. I even showed him that if I hook up Shaw (7Mbit) the speeds are 4 times faster. I did this several times, switching back and forth. I also tried changing MTU settings but to no avail. The installer told me that was something I would have to call MTS about and that he couldn’t do anything. Then after being on hold 40 minutes and they ran some tests (including me downloading form their FTP site) they said something was wrong. I’ve never had MTS internet at my current place. But I’m glad to hear others can get high speeds with the modem in the MTS TV box.
Well I just called MTS back again. On hold 25 minutes (It seems their always experiencing higher than normally call volumes) they had made my appointment to fix this for Feb. 20. Without even calling me back to tell me that. They moved it up to this Tuesday. They did the same thing when they installed it. They call me the day before with a recording telling me my appointment was for the morning and not the afternoon like I scheduled. They told me they had overscheduled people and were moving appointments. And the MTS guy somewhat confirmed what the Shaw guy told me about MTS TV taking bandwidth. But he said it shouldn’t be a problem now until they add more channels. |

MTS can pipe about 24MB through on a DSL line. There is 4.5 MB reserved for internet, the rest is for the video TV signal. I can tell you right now I can have all 3 TVs on, and be downloading at 480kbps, no problems. The MTS TV box does NOT affect bandwidth, period.
Again, keep us updated. |

Mts Guy came over and looked at the net and he told me I was only signed up for the 3 Mbps service and not 5. He told me I am getting good speeds for 3Mbps. When i called MTS and asked what speed i was supposed to have i was told the service "lightning" is rated at 3 to 5 Mbit. I guess that's the fine print. And there is nothing they can do if i'm not in the lower end. They can upgrade me to their 5-7Mbit plan for and extra 25 dollars a month. I was very close to 7Mbps on shaw and it was the same price.
On a side note. The installer (actually MTS employee and not contactor) told me the MTS tv network (VDSL) is full and cant handle over 5Mbit interent. And when they install "lightning max" they have to install the stand alone modem for ADSL |

Wow bent you have some good results. I have Mts 3 tv's / internet and there were my results
![]() MTs Internet traffic is super busy in the evenings sometimes i get lag on xbox live . A seperate ADSL line? Thats Crazy. So you had MTS HD + 1 Extra TV + Super Highspeed internet you would need 3 lines running into your house? Since for MTS HD don't they need to run a seperate line from the box because of the extra bandwidth? Will the MTS infostructure even handle us in the neat future? heh |
