Default Porn Industry Support Is Key To Format War?

Why you might ask.
It's easy, the Porn industry drives new technology.
And the Porn industry has chosen HD-DVD for High Def Porno:

And this news from CES 2007, Click Here.

I just checked the Digital Playground website, they already have 4 HD-DVD releases, and no BluRay. And they are the ones that announced last year they would exclusivley BluRay, well they've changed their mind, Hello HD-DVD, good bye BetaRay!

Didn't we already discuss this? Porn is just fine in SD. Who wants to see butt pimples and surgical scars in razor-sharp, ultra-clear glorious 1080p HD? I think a little softness in picture quality isn't such a bad thing.

I have a feeling that porn isn't going to have as big an impact this time. Reason being is that there are so many ways to get porn videos these days...the internet, dvd, vhs, pay-per-view and now hd-dvd. With all of these options, the people who want to buy porn probably aren't going to shell out the cash for a high definition format.

VHS vs Betamax was different...at that time VHS was the ONLY way to get porn on video, so it would have a HUGE impact on swaying the public in VHS's favor.

That's a great point, odiovidio, regarding the different ways to get porn. Thanks to the internet, I haven't paid for porn in years. Don't see the point in starting now, either.

cheers,

The Blu-ray Disc Association is speaking out against charges that the org is shunning adult video distributors from releasing content on Blu-ray.

Lando you beat me to the link. The only thing I find odd is that the BDA is constantly and actively working to sign on studios, etc.....
But you don't ever hear of anything out of porn industry other than "Talks are still on the table"
Basically if the porn industry came over they would be happy, and if they don't I don't think they are to concerned.

There is an article out there talking about how BDA can spin the lack of porn into a positive thing, ie moral standards, no porn
I will look for the link

Cheers....

you also get movies on the internet, i don't but ppl do...

ppl are buying movies because they want the best pic quality, if you have a hdtv and hd dvd player you want hd movies.

i don't think porn is any different... ppl will want the hd porn because they have the hd equipment to watch it and i bet it will also boost hd-dvd player sales.

its not the same as the vhs vs beta i agree as far as a huge impact but there will be an impact

I've come to the realization that porn is a consumable and not an asset. This means as soon as I've watched it we are done with each other. Paying twice the cost of a mainstream movie to watch once probably explains why in the jump from VHS to DVD I have maybe 3 porn DVDs. Since the Internet the idea of buying a disc to watch once seems crazy. Thanks to the Internet, the days of porn being a deciding factor in technology are lessening to be a non-factor.

As others have said, I really don't want to know how imperfect and not like the box cover the starlet's are. Seeing every blade of grass on a football field is cool. Seeing every bump from razor burn, not so. Finally thanks to HD we can appreciate that drag queens do indeed have better make-up than porn stars.

Iain.

Oh my God I need to sell my PS3 ASAP!!! The porn Gods have spoken, BD is as good as trash!!!

Seriously, this has been discussed as nauseum and I think that there is consensus on the simple fact that things are way different in 2007 then they were in the early 80s. Back then the Internet didn't exist as a distribution channel and there were no other video formats on which to get porn other then the chosen VHS. Today I can still get porn on DVD and I suspect this is still going to be the majority of sales for many years to come.

If anything, this will be a blip in the ongoing war... If all porn studios decided to use HD-DVD AND stop selling DVD's then this might have had some impacts . Also, I haven't read anything so far that shows porn studios are going to be exclusive, let alone that ALL of them chose HD-DVD.

ppl will pay and invest(in a new player) to see HD porn... some of you may not but lots of ppl will. If it's new, in the adult industry, it will sell. Once the term HDDVD and porn are mentioned in the same sentence on the front page of CNN or CBC or whatever... look out google search term count. The word isn't really out yet.

I really don't think there is a war to win between HD and BR. They will both last and we will all own an all in one player or own one of each.

The HD player will go in the husband's(male) spare room and the BR in the living room for family viewing lol

Speculation at its best... People will be lining up up to buy Toshiba players to watch their porn in HD just like everybody that owns a PS3 are buying truckloads of BD movies... It goes both ways.

Default Sony says 'no' to porn on Blu-ray Disc.

http://www.infoworld.com/article/07/...nbluray_1.html

"Sony said it will not work with the adult film industry to help put their movies on its Blu-ray Disc format, although it will not try to stop them completely.

The company will not allow its disc replicating subsidiary, Sony DADC, to handle adult film titles, it said this week. In markets where it operates around the world the company won't duplicate any movies above a certain rating or that have not been certified by a local motion picture association. "
