Default DTS-ES 6.1 Discrete with Analogue

Hi been searching high and low, and haven't quite found the answer to a question I have. If this is not in the appropriate forum, my apologies.

Anyways, my question is this. If I have my DVD player (Oppo DV-970HD) hooked up to my receiver through the Analogue Multi-Channel connections, which are only 5.1 Multi channel, will my receiver not be getting the Discrete 6.1 audio when I am watching a DVD with a DTS-ES 6.1 Discrete soundtrack, seen as how there are only 6 discrete channels being sent from the DVD player to the receiver? Hope thats clear enough to understand.

You cannot get 7 discrete channels with 6 analogue connections. The receiver (if it's a 6.1 receiver) will "matrix" the center rear from the LR & RR signals if there is no 7th input connection.

Why not use a digital audio connection like optical or coaxial audio? What AV Receiver (make/model) do you have?

Well, the reason I am using the Analogue's is so that I can use the SACD. If I hook it up both with the analogue connections, for use with SACD, and with Optical for DVD, then I can just switch between the two within the DVD player correct?

I have a Yamaha HTR5960.

My DVD player outputs on all the terminals at once,so

My DVD sends signals on all outputs,so
i have a couple hooked up and just use the AVR to select which to use.

Or, as mentioned above, if the outputs are all live, simply switch inputs on the AVR whenver you want to use digital connection and have the AVR do the decoding.
