I tried searching for "5C" but the search engine for this site doesn't let you search for two letter words.
What is the state 5C DTCP in Canada? Is it legal for shows to have Do not Copy, Copy Once or whatever the flags are turned on in Canada? Is this just the case for digital TV or is it also the case for analog TV? Or is this an industry wide protocol that doesn't really follow national laws? Of course, this won't matter to me if Rogers never turns on a firewire port or gives us CableCard. |

See the Digital Home FAQ (under help) "Recording HD".
There's a sticky in the Shaw forum regarding 5C issues.

My guess is there is no regulation on 5C implementation and most cable systems have no idea what it is or even care if it causing problems with their customers.
My cable company "Source Cable" has 5C implementation on just about every single channel accept for the East US HD Networks and the basic cable channels. My requests to have 5C implementation removed from channels like CBC-HD, CTV-HD, Citytv HD and Global HD have fallen on deaf ears with them and probably will forever. |
