Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles - Season 1

New to this. Fine show. Summer Glau is, ah, intriguing. Show looks sharp. Sound is good, but not much from the surrounds. Love the room-shaking bass drum though. Looking forward to S2.

Blade: Movie is good P/Q is not bad at all for an older title. Audio is 8/10. Funny thing is that after I watched it I saw that Blade 2 is showing on HD-Net Movies so I have the PVR set to record as it is my fav of the three.

Predator 2: Since I love all things predator this was a no brainer for me the movies itself is not as good as the first but the P/Q and A/Q are better and the movie is worth the $14.99 price tag.

Thumbs up Friday the 13th Part 2

Friday the 13th Part 2

Featuring Jason for the first time as the killer and no hockey mask!!! Just a bag over his head... probably my favorite Friday movie where Jason is the killer. It's basically the same as the first movie... camp, the old stories, horny teens, all getting knocked off one by one and well it works haha.

The PQ is ok, Part 1 I thought looked WAY better. They gave this a 4/5 on that blu ray site but I would disagree strong. A 3/5 is what I would go with. Much of the picture is hazey and soft. The day time scenes seem to work the best but most of the movie is dark of course.

AQ is good. Not alot going on, but when the kill music kicks in, it sounds good.

A must own... another terrific ending! Almost as cool as Part 1's.

Crash .. Lions Gate Film. DTS - ES Audio

a candidate for permanent addition to one's collection - classic movie. i particularly enjoy the acting skills of **Don Cheadle

**replacing Terrance Howard in the next Iron Man movie. Iron Man 2 slated to be released May 7 2010.

back to the main point of this post. Crash on BluRay is well done IMO. Winner of 3 Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

as suggested on this fourm, I also watched I-Robot recently. Indeed .. excellant audio and picture quality. possibly most detailed audio i have heard in surround on BR to date. great movie too. thanks for the heads up ..

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Terminator 2: Judgment Day

PQ for Harry was excellent, the extras included. In fact the features on shooting the Room of Requirement and Ministry of Magic scenes were as vivid and colourful as anything I've seen on my HDTV.

T2 was the original Blu-Ray version. I guess there's a newer, collector's set version. Newer? How old is Blu-Ray? Anyway, it looks somewhat flat, but I guess blue/gray, steely is what they were going for. But it's solid overall.

Default George Steven's Production of The Diary of Anne Frank

...this is the 50th Anniversay of the 1959 classic which won 3 Oscars and nominated for 5 more.

If you're over 10, you know the story.

The B&W version comes compete with grain for fans of anti-DNR.

Still a great movie after all these years.

Thumbs up

The Police: Certifiable - The Police perform in Buenos Aires, Argentina as part of their 2007 "Farewell" tour.

Although I'm not a huge Police fan, I thoroughly enjoyed this concert. The band was very tight, but they seemed relaxed and appeared to be having a good time playing their hits and a few lesser-known songs for the crowd.

Sting looked good and sounded great. His voice was in fine form and, while he didn't reach too high too often, his voice hit the higher notes solidly when required. His bass playing was relatively restrained, although at times he did let loose with his fingers to good effect.

I've never paid much attention to Andy Summers, so his guitar playing really surprised me. Excellent rhythm, lots of great little riffs and some terrific, discordant-sounding* leads. (*I know that's not the correct term, but I can't think of how else to describe them.) The least fit of the trio, his pudginess didn't appear to affect him as he roamed his side of the stage and struck playful "guitar god" poses.

Stewart Copeland - an excellent drummer - delivered his usual blend of intricacy and precision, and also had fun smacking away at the rack of percussion instruments set up behind him. At times he looked a bit like some odd sort of bird (maybe it was the owl-eyed glasses he was wearing) and in a number of shots he appeared tired, as though his playing was taking a lot out of him (you never see Neil Peart looking tired!), but these are just a couple of inconsequential observations.

The concert was very well-filmed and, aside from a couple of instances of soft focus (which were quickly tightened up) and the odd visual gimmick, the camera work was excellent. There were lots of great pans and zooms (in and out), good lingering shots and a restrained amount of quick-cutting between scenes.

As I indicated at the start, I'm not a big fan of The Police, but I found this concert thoroughly enjoyable. In fact, it's the first concert movie I've watched in recent years where I felt I was actually AT the show rather than just watching a very good film of a show. For anyone who is even moderately interested in The Police, "Certifiable" is a "must have".

Re. the Blu-ray itself: PQ is flawless from start to finish, with brilliant colours and solid blacks. Heck, even the occasional moments of lens flare look good! AQ is appropriately biased toward the front speakers and extremely well-balanced overall. (Many comments cite the strong amount of bass/LFE but, aside from the robust notes generated by Sting's bass pedals and the powerful thuds from Copeland's percussion-rack floor tom, I didn't find that to be the case.)

Thumbs up Friday the 13th Part 3

Friday the 13th Part 3

Another solid entry in the series, you get what you expect and it does what is expected well lol

First flick with the mask, lots of great killings, chases and another decent ending.

The 3-D was ok, not terrible but not nearly as good as say My Bloody Valentine's 3D.

PQ pretty good... 3.5/5... audio about the same.

The Reader - In post-war Germany, teenager Michael Berg has a short-lived affair with Hanna Schmitz, an older woman who delights in having him read to her. She abruptly terminates the relationship and he does not see her again until years later when, as a law student, he attends the trial of six female Nazi camp guards and finds her to be one of the co-defendants. As he soon finds out, her dark past is not the only secret she has...

Although it took a little while for the momentum to build, and despite the trite "anti-Nazi" moments, this turned out to be a pretty decent drama overall. Winslet and Kross delivered subtle yet wonderful performances. Fiennes was, as usual, a solid performer, and I loved the fact that Bruno Ganz had a small role in this movie, too.

Thumbs down Young Guns

Young Guns

A favorite of mine from my teens. The movie is ok, not as cool as it was back in 1988 but still watchable and enjoyable.

PQ wise this is terrible though, at points it looks more like VHS!!! Really disappointing, I want my money back... but the title was 10 bucks at Wallyworld and I guess now I know why.

AQ was so so.

Overall... disappointed with the quality.

Thumbs up JCVD

JCVD

What a pleasant surprise. Not what I expected at all, very different and hard to get a read on at first but after 30 minutes or so you really fall into this one. Get to see the other sides of Jean Claude Van Damme in an unfamiliar role for him.

Thumbs way up!

PQ 4/5

AQ 3/5, was only DD but it worked

Thumbs up The World is not Enough

Cheesy Bond fun, not the best of the series by any means.
But definatly gets a big thumbs up for the AQ and PQ! Superb looking and sounding especially considering the age. Plus a Steelbook edition and all for under 10 bucks
