The 1st two Pirates of the Carribean are among the best I have seen in Blu-Ray with Dead Man's Chest being the absolute best IMO. I thought "The Patriot" was top-notch as well. Corpse Bride seems to be considered one of the best Blu-Rays in terms of picture but I have yet to see it myself.

If you have kids, Ice Age 2 and Open Season both look fabulous and I think are BD exclusives... I find that people notice the PQ even more when it's a CG cartoon movie.

For Eluder, some movie suggestions:
Casino Royale - for me this was a gritty, realistic Bond movie that made me pretty excited about the series moving forward. Crank - I really loved this movie for what it was - a fast paced, action,, somewhat silly but fun ride - never a dull moment. v: 4.5/5, a:5/5 movie: 3/5 Letters from Iwo Jima - my opinion (and a number of others I know) is that this movie is the better of the two (Unless you already have it on HD DVD) MI:III - Number II was terrible, this one was quite good.. lots of action and looks pretty damned good to me. Hidefdigest: v: 5/5, a: 4.5/5, movie 3.5/5 (I rate it higher) Unforgiven - I love westerns and Clint - picture and movie were great. (unless you already have it on HD DVD) Monster House - fun movie, v:a Corpse Bride - movie: 4/5, v:4.5/5, a: 4/5 - I am also a sucker for Tim burton Movies Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang - I loved this movie. Apocalypto - some folks really don't care much for this movie and hidef only gave it 3/5 for the movie iteself (v:4/5 a:4.5/5) but it's most definitely worth a purchase in my opinion. I love the Pirates movies as well to death - Depp is excellent - Keira is not terrible to look at. Night at the Museum - What a fun movie this was. The visuals are pretty awesome and the sound definitely. movie: 4/5, v: 4/5, a: 4.5/5. Have fun. Cal |

Planet Earth - The Complete BBC Series, unless you don't already have it in HD DVD.
Cheers.

It's great eye candy, but I found the movie to be too short and too lacking of anything resembling a good story. |

Thanks for the suggestions folks. Crank is on my list of to get movies. I found it highly entertaining. I'm on the fence with Casino Royale cause I actually didn't like that movie that much. I felt it was a real let down for a Bond film.

Guess it's good I'm getting it for free as well, lol. Most of the choices for those 5 free movies sucked anyway, but I'm getting one or two movies that I woulda bought anyway.

I watched Bridge to Terabithia in Blu-ray this weekend (Link to Bridge to Terabithia thread in movie forum)
It was a family movie, so its not for the action crowd, but it looked great. The boys looked more handsome, the girls looked cuter, the men more rugged and the scenery was beautiful.

We watched The Messengers and Premonition last night. The PQ and AQ in The Messengers was very good and the movie was pretty good itself as far as those kind of movies go. Premonition also had top-quality PQ and the movie was okay. I was a bit surprised how the story unfolded but considering I didn't plan on even watching it I'm glad I did.

Started watching Ghost Rider. Looks excellent and sounds excellent. But, you can notice in some scenes that Eva Mendes has had some acne issues in the past on her right cheek in particular. I guess that's what you get with High Def.

American Pyscho. Started a little grainy in the opening credits but appeared to be pretty nice after that for PQ. Audio was great too, nothing like hearing some classic 80s pop on a BR disc haha.

Watched two of the zip.ca BD movies I got last week.
Flatliners from Sony Pictures. Movie is still pretty good but the PQ is only slightly better than the SD version. Only worth a rent/zip IMO. There is an uncompressed soundtrack but I don't have the system to decode it. Also watched "Goal! The Dream Begins" which is a football (soccer) movie from Disney. The movie is not bad at all and it's refreshing to see some unknown actors. I'm really into the sport so YMMV... The PQ is really good, much better than SD and again there is an uncompressed soundtrack that I can't use... Tonight I'm going to watch King Arthur with Kiera... |
