Default I thought HDMI was enabled on the SA8300HD (Toshiba DVI)

Forgive this newbie if this is an issue already covered in the forum but I've searched high and low for the answer here on the forum to no avail.

I bought the kids an X-box 360 but my Toshiba HD TV has only 2 component inputs (presently hooked up to the DVD player and the 8300). To free up a component input for the xbox I bought an HDMI->DVI cable for the 8300. Doesn't work. All I get is a blank screen. I checked the service menu (page 31/34) and it says HDMI is not enabled. Is there something I need to do to activate it or am I totally misinformed? HELP!!!

HDMI does work on the SA8300HD (most times), however, it requires a TV that has DVI-HDCP and sometimes DVI connections are simply "flaky". Please provide the model number of your TV and check the operating manual to see if it's DVI-HDCP. No HDCP, no work.

Also, please put your location and service provider in your UserCP Profile, because it'll help us help you.

You may also be getting a blank screen because you have not properly set up the STB for the DVI connection. Some TVs don't accept 480i for example via HDMI/DVI, so check when outputing 1080i (see the front of the 8300HD for output format). See the Digital Home FAQ (under help) "Tips for SA STBs".

This topic has been covered many times, however, newbies are allowed.

I'm using a Toshiba 65H83 on Rogers in Toronto. The manual says the DVI input is DVI-HDCP and accepts 480i and 480P.

What does that page 31 entry mean?

Don't know about page 31. HDMI has worked on the vast majority of SA8300HD hookups - HDMI to HDMI.

I just remembered the following thread which indicates Toshiba TVs with DVI have "issues" with that connection and the SA8300HD.

Looks like you're SOL.

You may wish to get a component video switch, an AV Receiver with component video switching, or a new upconverting DVD player to use HDMI-DVI if it works.... Good luck.

I don't think the 8300HD will output a signal from the HDMI and Component at the same time. Actually I think you must physically pull the component cables from the cable box, even if they are not being used. Not positive on all this, and wasn't completely sure of your set-up.

Lexx, some people have been able to get HDMI and CV to work at the same time to two different TVs for example.

You are correct that sometimes the STB will be confused by this configuration, but it seems to depend on the STB settings (if you use passthrough, which formats are engaged, etc)

Certainly for troubleshooting, it's always best to only have one video connection.

As soon as HDMI cable is connected to SA8300HD, component output on the box goes off.

Default Both outputs work at the same time here

I can use either the HDMI or the component output on my 8300HD. Could your cable be faulty TorDoc?

I have the SA8300HD HDMI hooked up to a front projection display (Sony VPLHS-50) and it works well.

I also have the SA8300HD component outputs hooked up to a Sony Rear Projection TV and it also works well.

Albeit *NOT AT THE SAME TIME*, when the SA8300HD detects the load on the HDMI cable (ie. turn the front projector ON), it disables the component outputs). When the HDMI load is gone (front project off), the SA box will activate the component outputs again, this actually serve me well and, no need to disconnect the component cables at the unit.

A previous poster mentioned it works with his Mac, that's probably because the Mac does not look for a HDCP handshake like most consumer electronics must.

Hope this helps

I just received my cables today from monoprice and I got a DVI to HDMI cable to try out on my Toshiba 57H83 and SA8300HD. I have the same problem as TorDoc. Blank screen. I have set the box to use 1080i, 720p, 480p using component, changed to DVI, unplugged both the TV and 8300. I plugged them back in, turned the TV on first then the 8300, still nogo. I think I am out of luck as well. I knew this could happen before I ordered the cables but for $1.83 for a 3 foot cable I couldn't go wrong. I probably will still try and use it for an upconverting DVD player.
