I have a 6100 and For the last couple of weeks I have been getting gray horizontal bands across the screen. It is intermittent, and not on all channels?
I have played a DVD and there is no problem at all with these grey bands. BEV sent me a new receiver to deal with the freezing on HUD, but it is still there, but perhaps not as bad. Does anyone have similar problems??? |

Have you tried connecting your 6100 to your TV using another method? It seems that most of the problems people are having are from the DVI interface.

Other than the S-video from the DVD, (where there are no problems at all), I have only used the HDMI to DVI for BEV. The horizontal stuff only started a couple of weeks ago, which is why I was wondering about the recent solar activity.

Try using the S-video connector and see if you can reproduce it.

The bands are very random, and not on all channels. At one point it seemed that they did not appear during commercials, I have since seen them on occasion.
I am using RG6 and everything is grounded. Again, this only started the last couple of weeks, which is why I am wondering if it is the broadcast source? On the HD channels CTV and CBS seem to be the worst. Since BEV replaced my 6100 with another 6100, I don't think that is the problem. I looked at the two links you provided and the bands are not starting at the bottom and moving up, rather the materialize at random points on the screen and disappear the same way. At times the bands do not go all the way across the screen. Sometimes it seems that the bands have a correlation to dark images on the screen, but I am not so sure about that one. The only thing that I am absolutely certain of, is that there are no bands at all when watching a DVD. |

How about this link? You don't state the make/model of the TV or whether it has been properly set up. Just trying to help...

Maybe they disappear during commercials because commercials are usually in SD and not HD?

The set is a Toshiba 34HFX
I have had this set up for over a year and no problems other than freezing in HD. I have made no changes untill last Saturday when I swapped 6100s. I absolutely appreciate any help you may be able to provide. Oasis BTW seems to be the worst of any of the HD channels for the horizontal bars. Last edited by phoenix144; 2006-12-20 at 01:31 PM. |

Correction to a previous post, I am using component video (Toshiba calls it "colourstream" connections to my DVD player/recorder.
If I watch BEV through the DVD (component set up) there are no bands, but I am not seeing HD in HD. |

Solar activity will cause picture breakups and loss of signal, not bands on your TV. I suspect a problem with the TV, maybe the power supply. Another possibility is a ground loop. That would most likely occur with an analog connection, not HDMI/DVI but it's possible.

Thanks for the reply. It could be a power supply issue, but, There are none of the bands through the dvd player, and they are not constant through the 6100. I am a little picky, a friend was over on the weekend and it tokk me pointing them out several times before she could see them. The bands are pretty faint.

Can you connect the 6100 thru component (red/blue/green) direct to the TV to check it out? also just confirm you 6100 is set for 1080i output? I used to get slight banding on 480p - something to do with black level and voltage as far as I could research.

I can, but it is a real PIA, as the set is about 140lbs and is in a cabinet (very well vented by the way).
I'll have to wait for that until I can get some one to help me move it out. The 6100 is set to 1080i. It's just really strange that it only started a couple of weeks ago.....?? |

I think I may have the same problem, or at least a related problem. About 9 months back, I changed out my 6000 for a 9200. Starting about 6 weeks later, I bagan to notice moving lines across the screen. These lines look like scan lines, are light gray and fill the screen from top to bottom. Most of the time, they move from the top to bottom of the screen, but not always. About 1/2 the time, I have no problem and then it will just randomly appear. It does not appear to be related to warmup of the 9200, as I have left it powered up for 24 hours and the lines still come and go. I do NOT have this problem if I'm watching a DVD.
I run the 9200 through my Harmon Kardon receiver, and the DVD is also connected through the receiver. The receiver is connected to my Panasonic 47" through high-grade component video cables. I'm puzzled, and getting no help from Bell's crack CSR team. Any advice is appreciated! Ron |
