Does WVNY 22 (ABC) receive in Brossard, just near Rte 132 and Aut. 10.
TVfool shows a NM = 23 dbs, LOS, I have no local obstructions. Its a 4221HD optimized for ABC 22 (RF#13), NET gain is 8 dbi. Its at 25 ft high. Coaxial is about 75 ft, RG-6. Coaxial is not grounded. Receiving ALL channels at 80-100 %, except NOTHING on ABC. When adding a high quality, low-noise pre-amp, most channels were ruined. Is there anything in particular affecting ABC.... at my other location in West Island Montreal, ABC comes in with a weaker antenna, lower NM, at 70-80 %. In fact all other locationsI know, ABC is received easily with this antenna, so I am really perplexed... ![]() I tried manual, and auto scan, on new Samsung for #13, and #22 (which mapped to CBS 3.1 instead), no signal and it says only "AIR". Im wondering if the roof is partially blocking signal, because the antenna faces the upward slope of the roof, instead of at peak. But it is aimed mostly of,f and away from the end of the roof. However, this doesnt affect Fox , at 80%, which is normally also very weak. Thanks |

wow, the forums are really dead these days!
Anyways, I did more tests, including different tuner, grounding, and short quad shield cable, and reaiming....ABC is detected on my LG HDTV, but not enough for a picture...the signal bars is also bouncing around, so I asume its multipath issue or interference off the backside from CFCF #12. I also noticed a huge tower with various antennae at the north, west, corner of Boul. Rome and Boul. Taschereau intersection...also high tension hydropower lines on Rome, parallel to Taschereau... I think Im aiming into these or close, so maybe they are interfering ?? Im not sure if a HLSJ splitter would help for a test or perhaps an FM trap...??? |

I've often wondered if the South Shore gets signal from CBMT-TV-1 Trois-Rivières also on Channel 13, which would cause co-channel interference noticeable to most tuners. That would explain in part the difficulties viewers are having.

I think the CBMT (TR) coverage map isnt that close to Montreal
In the West Island ABC is EASY, and thats only a few KMs from Brossard, also I think CBMT (TR) is in the antenna's null when pointing to Vermont from Brossard, but I understand that with co-channel that doesnt necessarily help... Oh well, I guess will know more when they convert to digit this summer, no ??? Im gussing it has more to do with adjacent interference from CFCF #12, even in digital this can be a big factor, CFCF is around -28 PWR and WVNY is around -68 PWR. |

location, location, location....
but what are you using ? maybe then its the tower or power lines interfering.... I dont think an FM trap will help either. |

Home made gizmo: 2x6 with 8 6" whiskers. The 2x6 is lying on its back on top of the fence.
Also, in Candiac, all utility lines (gaz metro, hydro, bell videotron etc) are under ground..maybe this has an effect or not. Cheers, K |

thanks,
when aiming toward vermont are you lower than the neighboring obstacles ? are you getting ABC reliable with that, maximum #13 gain would be maybe 2-3 dbi ! Good for you . |

Am lower than the neighbouring houses and tree. As you might know, Candiac has a lot of tall trees. Using google sat, it seems I have a straight line to VT between the shed and the next house. I checked the signal and ABC is coming in at 61% (Sony Bravia KDL something )

I had major problems with WVNY before ( ch 13 trois-rivières interference)
Then I paid an installer to climb my tower and install the Delhi 10y13s at 45 feet. Now, I get it 100% of the time. The signal strength is around low 68 % to high 82 %. |

I have been getting 6.1 and 2.1 since digital, 70 miles SE of Montreal with SBGH on a 20' pole.
At +- 20% the pictures are flawless. At 15% I lose the signal. I can't get any other Montreal stations. Still waiting. Last edited by marnop; 2012-03-13 at 08:40 PM. Reason: SW to SE |

Bouval,
Amplifier is CM-3412. Best picture I have ever seen is on my Coby 12 inch for $90. Better than my 26 inch Sony. Dish satellite is much poorer quality. I posted this on the Montreal status forum as a reply but it was transferred here where it is out of context. There are too many forums for the amount of traffic. Marnop,
CM-3412 is a distribution amplifier. You should use a pre-amp like the Channel Master CM7778 or CM7777 to get the Montreal channels. .

@ Marnop...
When I first built a SBGH, all I got was 2.1 and 6.1 from Montreal (no amp, no pre-amp, location was Noyan, just across the water from VT). Considering you're a few miles further than I was, you might need something bigger/better than a SBGH. However, regarding Bouval's recommendation, a pre-amp is always a good idea regardless. Cheers, K |
