Default 8300HD - recordings ending early

I upgraded to a 8300HD from my 8300. Everything looks great, but many of my recordings are ending about 2-3 minutes early and I'm missing the best part of the show! Is this a problem with the timer on the rogers box? Or is the station going passed the hour mark?

Anyone else having this problem?

For me it's the station going past the mark ... this is especially true for Grey's Anatomy in my experience. I have to set it up to record the program after as well to catch the last minute and it happens almost every week. The PVR clicks 10pm and it's still on, ARGH

There was a thread about the Rogers having an inaccurate clock, but that issue has been resolved for a few days now. Are your recordings from that time?

http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=49057 (post 13 on)

How long are your recordings? If you hit the "stop" button during the playback and it indicates it's 60 minutes long, then the time is being recorded properly and the programme is running longer. See the following thread regarding that issue.

This week's Heroes (recorded on Global-HD) was cut off at the end. I probably only missed a few seconds of the show itself, but if you add in the short commercial break followed by next week's previews I'd say it was off by a minute (if not more). I quickly checked the start of the program, and it was spot-on (i.e. not an extra minute of the previous program, as was the case when the clock was off).

This happens all the time with the U.S. broadcasts, which is why I try to stick with CTV, Global, City. I thought there was some CRTC regulation against this (I remember reading this somewhere). So is this it now? Until TVGuide Canada fixes the data at their end we are stuck with cut-off recordings?

57, do you know if that story linked in the other thread about netoworks intentionally running programs a few minutes past is still around somewhere? The link there doesn't work and I'm curious. Mine are spot on 60 minutes and they runneth over. Is the reason for this to try and annoy PVR owners LOL ... I know my friend has a media centre and this isn't a problem for him he says, it's smart enough to figure it out.

Lots of programmes on the US networks still run for 61-64 minutes. Lost, Leno, etc.

Well yes but I thought their might be more behind that like to try and keep people watching live instead of PVR's etc ... there was a story link in the other thread that was no longer available. It's just 'cause they have alotta story to tell?

Grey's Anatomy went to 35 minutes again last night, good thing I was watching live.
57, you had a ticket opened with Rogers about that(I read it in the other thread). Did they ever get back to you?
In my opinion, networks will not gonna do anything about it. Either the IPG needs to be fixed or Rogers needs to give us the capability to edit start and end times which will stick longer than a week (I think the new firmware will have that).
This is very annoying...

Last time I talked to them, the ticket was still open, however, the more people who complain the better. The ticket regarding Inconsitent programme titles is also still open.

I believe these both relate to TV Guide Canada and possibly firmware that can't accept "odd" end times like 8:37, so they tend to use 8:30 or 8:35 (5 minute increments) if they notice at all.

Do you have a ticket number or anything like that? How do I refer to it? I can explain it to them, but I am very skeptical that they will be linked together unless I can give them a number or something like that.
If you feel uncomfortable to leave it in the forum, PM me please

Edit: They apparently closed my previous ticket since I was the only one complaining (which I don't believe).

Here are the new ticket numbers:

Inconsistent Programme Titles - DSR00598828

Inconsistent Start/Stop Times - DSR00598831 (this thread)

It may not necessarily be good to refer to the ticket right away if you call. It may be better to describe and then, depending on their comments, refer to the ticket, or if they say they are aware, ask them for the ticket.

I was told that the IPG should be able to handle "odd" stop times like 12:37AM for Jay Leno, but if it can, I don't understand why they can't at least get that programme right.

I finally called Rogers about inconsistent start stop times (Programs running past their scheduled recording times). After a period of painfully being bounced around, I explained to them my problem. I was told that they know about the problem and gave me a DSR number. However it is different than 57's:
DSR00607117

Please, please call Rogers. The more, the better. You can refer either (or both ticket number). They have to understand how many they are effecting.

Rogers closed my ticket saying it has been fixed. Funny though, the same day Grey ran 2 minutes longer what the IPG says. I call and after arguing a while and talking to next level of support I got it reopened (DSR00615359 now).

Now I got a call from Rogers saying I need to schedule a service call with a technician. Either these guys are morons or they are hoping that I will not call and they can close the ticket like that. How can a technician fix a wrong IPG entry?
I don't know what to do. This is becoming an hassle. I guess that is what they trying to create...
Any opinions what to do?

If i'm reading this correctly, there is no way to manually fix this? I was out of town for business and got back and finally started watching all the stuff I missed but all the stuff I have recorded, ended a minute or so early..

Prison Break and Heroes ..

Discussed in the following thread:

http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=58246

- Do a new recording each week
- Extend the "all episodes" recording each week
- Set an "all episodes" recording for the programme that usually follows the one of interest.
- Try setting up a manual recording (I've tried and it doesn't always work, so the only time I do this is if I'm on a long trip and have no choice).
