Is it in a service menu? Do I need a special remote to do it?
I'm not paying $100 for someone to come to my house to do it like LG told me to. I already paid $400 for the fricken bulb. Quote:

Replacing the bulb is very simple. Anyone can do it in less than 5 minutes. But like you, I don't know how to reset the life indicator.

my tv lg 52sx4d-ub was purchased 13 months ago warranty only good for one year ,its a great tv ,when i reset lamp hrs on old lamp had 5400 hrs ,tv gets used alot,i didn't feel so bad about replacing it ,i have friends who have dlp,s
and there lamps went at 2000 hrs. I called lg and they gave me a tv tech to call ,they wanted $300.00 for lamp 30 day warranty/and $200.00 to reset lamp includes call out to my house, would have cost me $500.00 plus tax and would take 7 days to get lamp in. i called a tv tech i know, he told me how to reset the lamp,i purchased lamp thru www.dlplampsource.com ,owners name dan great to deal with $239.00 with warranty free overnight shipping was at my house in less than 24 hrs, i since bought a backup lamp thru ebay for $195.00 with warranty. i bought a service remote thru a company for 35.00 dollars but i did not need it to reset lamp, very simple to replace and reset lamp!! |

Donski,
Thanks for the instructions on resetting the lamp hours on an LG DLP TV. After a little bit of trial and error, I posted a more thorough set of instructions here: http://willus.com/author/dlptv.shtml which I re-cap here: 1. With the TV on, press and hold the MENU button on the TV front panel. 2. While holding that button, press and hold the MENU button on your remote. 3. Hold both buttons for ~5 seconds until the service menu comes up on the TV. 4. Release the remote MENU button first, then the TV MENU button. 5. Press and hold the ENTER (or OK) button on the TV front panel. 6. While holding that button, press and hold the MUTE button on the remote. 7. Hold both buttons until the Lamp Life Hours show up on your TV screen. 8. Release the MUTE button first, then the ENTER button on the TV front panel. 9. Make a note of the lamp hours if you want. 10. To reset the lamp hours, press the SELECT button (the one between the four arrow keys with two concentric circles on it) on your remote. 11. It will ask you to confirm the reset--press SELECT again to confirm. To verify you've reset the hours, you can repeat steps 1-9 above and then just press the EXIT button on your remote. -willus |

willus, thanks for the instructions!
I have a 44SZ8D, and the above worked for me with a minor variation: In step 5, pressing enter, would bring up the pattern for position adjustment. I had to press and hold it AGAIN while pressing mute on the remote. So in my case: 5. Press ENTER on the TV to enter the position adjustment 5a. Press and hold ENTER on the TV front panel (the TV will re-enter the menu; keep holding ENTER while you press and hold MUTE on the remote. After approx 5 seconds, the lamp life counter will appear). Thanks again! |

The LG 44SZ8D service manual lists the lamp as part # 6912B22007B. Google shows it as a Zenith part number, which makes sense.
Further searching also yeilds this one: 6912B22002A. I don't know what the difference is (if any). To be honest, the service manual leaves a lot to be desired. For example, it makes no mention of replacing the bulb (and the above reset procedure). So I'm not sure which part is the better one, or if it even matters .

ncnmra, thanks for the details on your TV--I added a note to the instructions on my web site that includes the fix for your model. Did you have to replace your lamp? If so, how many hours did it last? I'm curious to know what other people are getting out of their lamps.

willus, I haven't had to replace my Lamp, but I am experiencing an issue with what looks like light contamination from the inside. Half of my screen has lost its ability to display deep blacks, and therefore the contrast suffers. For a moment I thought it may have had to do with the amount of lamp hours, but that doesn't appear to be the case. I've only got approx 1100 hours on mine, after almost exactly 1 year.
There is an ongoing thread here: http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/show...t=30828&page=9 There are a few people with the same issue. |

I have a Zenith model number Z44SZ80. When I tried to get to the service menu by holding both menu buttons down it asks me for a password. I have never put a password on this tv and i would really like to reset the light bulb hours on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Have you tried the simple default passwords used by most electronics - like 0000 or 1234?
