Default PS3 Availability - Issues, Tips [No Advertising or eBay Stuff]

I was talking to a manager on a zellers store today and he was saying all the Zellers stores across Canada will have insufficiant supply to fill all of it's preorders on launch day (Nov19), and there will be no extra unit to put on the shelves. Not sounding good for people that have already paid in full. They may be availble in next few weeks, but not on friday.

WHAT?!? But how will all those people selling their pre-orders on craigslist and Ebay be able to feed their kids now? Does Zellers realize what this means for Canadian society?

For example: http://calgary.craigslist.org/ele/234538350.html

Or you could buy a 360...

Didn't Zellers only have 4 preorders per store?

Yeah, most stores had 4 only. I would have sworn that 4 was already a conservative estimate by Zellers compared to what Sony would have promised. But maybe not. Too bad because I have one with them and it's really my best/only chance of getting one. Hopefully they release official info soon.

350 locations times 4 each = 1400 PS3s

You wouldn't think that would be too bad to do...

I was 7th out of 8 60GB units at my local EBGames store. Got a call yesterday telling me I may not be getting my pre-order on friday.

However, they confirmed today that I'd be getting it since they are getting 7 units after all.

I guess I lucked out.

The question is what percentage of people who have pre-orders are reselling their PS3'S?

I called my Zellers and they are getting all 4...i'm 2nd on the list. I was going to keep mine; at first I thought it would only go for about $1400, but now it is consistently going for $2000 on ebay (and I'm thinking more after Friday and lots of people get screwed)...I just could not live with myself if I kept it...I'm sure if I keep my ear to the ground I will be able to get another by Jan. ...

Quite high, the funny thing is that when the system launches, the flood of units on ebay will definatly lower the price.

Retailers not being able to fill their pre-orders might have to do with this:
North American PS3 Launch Shipment Halved

And alot of those pre-orders on ebay will now fall through, meaning less units for sale on ebay and less for people waiting in line on the 17th. So the price should stay the same or higher now that it well more difficult to get your hands on one.

This will bode well for the Wii.

I'm betting the price will go up. Only pre-order people will get one on Friday, and I'm betting most of the people who want to sell it have sold it as a presale on ebay. The problem is it sounds like 20-30% of those preorders will not be filled (speculation from what I've been reading...) so many of the people who thought they 'pre-ordered' one from ebay may get screwed and go back on looking for more...and it sounds like no one is going in and buying off the shelves come Friday...
Tough to tell though....
