Man this guy really looks like Alice Cooper...really nice guy. Has a crap load of coax cables...and I mean CRAP LOAD. Some crappy indoor antennas, but of interest was the Regal coax splitters (they look darn real to me) for $10. I also picked up the Regal cable modem splitter because I needed one for work for a public wifi access point that keeps cutting out because of the "normal splitter" we got on there. Will report back later on on that.

Marche aux puces 5 etoiles in St-leonard. Near Door 5...He's at a tiny booth 303, easy to miss, kept walking by him! look for the piles of coax cables piled 6 feet high. Big flea market if you are looking for fake sun glasses, rugs etc.... Never been to this one before in Montreal.

I bought a 3 -way regal from Alice Cooper, but guess what, it was horrible, nearly destroyed the signals on 2 of the 3 cable Tv feeds, now I am going back to my original 3-way no name splitter...

and not even close to the antronix splitter I've tried

The cable / internet modem splitter I got from him works well. Better than the no name splitter (hasn't cut out yet).

Yuprules:

What do you think is going on here then...do you think I could have damaged the Regal in leaving too long of the copper wire (in the RG6) extend past the screw fitting and into the splitter ports...

Oh yes, I've done that once...if that copper part of the coax cable is too long, DO NOT JAM IT into a "device". Really bad for it. He seemed really nice, maybe you should ask him for an exchange (no refunds of course).

Also, I found 3 way splitters have EXTREMELY HIGH LOSS (for obvious reasons) and I try to refrain from using them unless it's crappy a analog signal

yuprules:

I was afraid of that...the copper extended maybe 4-5 mm past the fitting edge, but I didn't meet much resistance when screwing the fitting...???

Default DB-8 in Montreal

I bought my DB-8 about 3 weeks ago at Microinformatique (5455 boul. Cousineau, Longueuil (Saint-Hubert) 450.462.8416). It seems there is very high demand for this model. When I picked it up, I was told they had sold 20 in that week. I just checked their website and don't see it listed any longer. Let me know if you can find it somewhere else.

Default Antennas Direct dealer in Quebec

I found this place while doing a google search. They are located in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu and the DB8 is listed for $90. Here is the link, hope someone find it useful.

Question installer on the South Shore of Montreal?

Hi!

Did anybody find an installer on the South Shore of Montreal?

I tried contacting Montcalm by email and asked them if they did installations on the South Shore, if they could remove my old tower (if it's unsafe) and install a new one, etc...

The reply I got was that they installed towers that are attached to the roof of the house with no answers to my other questions and that they would be happy to answer my questions.

So I'm still looking for an installer that can remove the old tower and install a new one with new attennas...

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Nick

Default Updated Montreal Sources

I just want to refresh the status and availability for sources on OTA equipment in the Montreal region since I have been looking around for the past week and it is a little disappointing:

Raybel Electronique - CM4228HD only $99.95, no CM4221HD
Montcolm Electronique - CM4228HD only $120.00, no CM4221HD

Addissons - MultiSat 4 bows(******** clone)$49.99, no CM products
LavalSat - ******** clones only
Vi-Tesse - Overpriced ******** clones only that cost as much as genuine CM
MegaPC - ******** clones only

Thanks for that, EdT, so maybe a trip to Vermont might be necessary for some types of antenna.

People should read this thread if they're wondering why there are ****s instead of a brand name:

Many of the merchants tell me that their CM products are on back order and CM can't supply them. This might be true since their is a huge influx of US customers buying it up during the DT transition till June of this year, but on the other hand my little voice in me tells me that it is simply "profits and greed" that drives them to carry a product they can wholesale for less and sell them at the same cost of the more expensive CM products ! I mean what is the percentage of people doing research like in these forums, maybe 10% or less, so in the end they come out ahead in terms of profits.

Does anyone know if Addision's is still selling those GE pre-amps ? it is not on their online catalog and I don't want to make a trip there for nothing
