I'm disappointed with Amazon.com.

I ordered 3 discs because of the 10% off deal. I chose the cheapest shipping where stuff gets grouped together. Two of the discs were in stock and the third was coming Nov. 14.

According to my order review page, with my shipment option the two in-stock discs would be packaged together and shipped immediately, while the other disc would come later. Sounded great so I confirmed the order.

The order confirmation email I got back stated that none of the three would ship until 2 weeks from now.

Classic bait and switch. Not the end of the world I know, but it's still false advertising, and very disappointing.

I pick up many of my HD DVD's from the following store. They have all the latest titles. Picked up Out of Sight and the Pat Metheny HD concert last night.

Great selection and wonderful service. Talk to Dave Hall.

Well, the first time I complained about this (before I posted the above) they didn't do anything about it. I complained again (nicely) and this time they agreed to send it out in two shipments.

I'm happy now.

I called them, sounds good to me. However, I still have trouble to order
some HD that is only available in the US. For example, Unleashed and
Assault on Precinct 13. Where is distributed by Alliance in Canada. I found
one store at Woodbine and Hwy.7 beside the Chinese restruant is available
to rent, but not for sell . Mississauga is a bit far to me. Is there any
other store could be closer in Toronto area? Please. Thanks alot.

James, have you received packages of items other than DVDs from Amazon.com without having had to pay any taxes and customs clearance charges? If so, any idea of what the value threshold is for bypassing these charges? I have a feeling that if you bought something like a $2K digital camera from Amazon.com you wouldn't get away with not paying these charges.

They wouldn't ship a 2k camera to Canada because of warranty issues. Only items like DVDs and CDs are shippable.

This is my guess of what is happening. I believe a truck ships merchandise from Kentucky to Ontario. Once in Ontario the items are packaged and shipped here, thus no borders to cross.

Canon cameras/lenses sold by authorized dealers in the US and Canada all come with a North American warranty, so in that case this would not be a problem. (Other manufacturers may have different policies. I believe that Nikon products bought in the US don't have warranty protection in Canada.)

As for Amazon.com's method of shipping, you may be right. If so, I'm surprised that Canada Customs lets them get away with it. After all, the product does cross the border at some point. Shipments through UPS, FedEx, USPS/Canada Post all involve payment of GST, PST, and customs clearance charges (which for UPS are exhorbitant). How is Amazon.com able to get around this? And what's the incentive for a consumer to deal with Amazon.ca, whose prices are higher and where you have to pay GST+PST. I'm thinking of ordering something other than DVDs from Amazon.com (just a camera bag, not a $2k camera) just to see how the taxes and customs charges are handled.

Thanks for the quick response. Will keep you posted on any further developments.

Paramount doesn't support Blu-ray anymore so it's gonna be hard find any of their titles on blu-ray.

a block north of that store you'll find DVD Wave. Ask for Michel and tell him that David Susilo the photographer says hello!

I just checked that site. The price, to say the least, is crazy expensive. $40 for "We Own the Night" (plus taxes too! - totalling $45). You can get the same title delivered from Amazon.com for less than $35 !!!
