Currently reviewing the Sondigo Sirocco Wireless Audio Bridge
This product with the Linksys Wireless Audio Bridge which I was very disappointed with. I had some problems setting up this unit but it appears to be my fault and my fault alone. I tried to set it up by plugging it into my lan rather than directly into my computer and running the setup. - me bad! Anyway, I now have it set up and am listening to the audio output via headphones. (it's late and I don't want to wake the household!) Listening to Denzal Sinclaire, Steve Tyrell and the Fugees! So far I'm impressed and will be spending the next few weeks puttting it through its paces. If anyone has questions, be sure to post and I'll try to help out. |

Great review Hugh.....
One question....is all of the file manipulation done on the computer end? (ie...if I'm streaming and listening to a song on my stero in the den and the computer is upstairs, I can't change the station/song choice from the den?) cheers

That's correct. To do that you would need something like a Dlink 320. A Squeeezebox or Roku Soundbridge has some capabilities in that area also.

It's a Canadian company so you can order directly from the company website. As far as retailers, perhaps there is a listing on the company website.
Just as an update, I still have a slight problem with the software dynamically switching sometimes but its easy to fix. I should check for a software update. Having said that, I love this device. It does exactly what I wanted |

So Hugh - a few months in, are you still a big fan of this device? I'm on the verge of picking one up for myself.
The most interesting point for me is that it allows you to play DRM-ed files, whereas many of the other options are a little more sticky about this. Great review, by the way. Very helpful. JS |

Very rarely, I have the issue I noted above. (there might be new software now that fixes the issue so check the site)
Otherwise it has worked flawlessly over the last few months. I haven't rebooted the device in months yet I use it every weekend and typically every day at dinner for music in my dining room. FOR ME, this device was exactly what I wanted and I'm very pleased with it.

Thanks Hugh. It is nice to hear a first-hand story on a device that isn't as common as many of the other options.
You're right - this device is perfect for what I am looking for. An Air Port Express would do a lot of what this does, but I just hate being tied down to a manufacturer's audio format. Even though I use iTunes, I want the option to stream internet radio from other sources, etc. to my stereo. Until recently, my wife was a traditional "CD in the carousel" type of person. Lately she has been hooking up the laptop to the stereo (which is a big step for her!), but that's a pain sometimes. She has finally officially endorsed the Sirocco that I have been trying to pitch to her for a while now - because she can see that the convenience will benefit HER now. Thank again, James |

I tested the Audio bridge as well a few months ago. It is a great product. I was able to play my music files all over the house. As for controlling the songs, there are 2 things you can use. Either an ATI remote control (as it is RF it will work through walls). Or a new product out from Keyspan that I reviewed in my blog.

Hello.
New to the forum. Hope someone can assist. I'm interested in this product but have several questions. First a little back ground. My computer with the music library is located upstairs in the home office. I would like to somehow access those music files and listen to them through my in-celing speakers in my basement. The system in the basement consists of a dedicated HT in one room, with Russound 6 Zone in-wall controllers. Everything is run through a Denon 3805 A/V Receiver. The in-ceiling speakers I'd like to use are run from a Russound Amplifier that is connected to the A/V Receiver. There is also a Linksys Wireless Access point located in the basement that is networked to the computer in the home office. I use my laptop to gain access the internet while in the basement. Whew! Please accept my apology for such a long post. My questions are: Can this product help me access the music library? If so, which component do I attach it to? The Denon or the Russound Amplifier? Can I use my laptop to access the music library through the network, or do I have to choose the music I want on the computer in the home office? And lastly, will I require any other items to make this idea a reality? Thanks in advance to anyone that can help in this matter! |

Simply the device allows you to wirelessly re-direct the sound output from your computer to the Scirocco. The Scirocco is then hooked up to a receiver or amp.
Read the review for more details.

I just got my Sirocco yesterday and am very pleased with how well it's
performing. But I'm having a minor problem: whenever I restart my PC and then try to play music, I get no sound coming from neither my speakers (that are connected directly to my PC) nor the output of the Sirocco. What I have to do is open the Sondigo Control Panel, hit "Disconnect", then "OK" to close the panel. This is the only way that I've found to restore audio. Any suggestions on reasons why, and any possible solutions? Thanks for any help... Wayne |

Wayne, I noted the same issue in post #6. Have you set the software to switch dynamically?

Hugh, yes, I did have the Dynamically Switching option operating.
I tried disabling the DAS, and then when I restarted my PC I was able to get sound right away from my Sirocco, but not from my PC's speakers when I disconnected the Sirocco. I needed to close my audio player and then restart it to get sound to come from my PC's speakers. So I have to go through these extra steps if I'm changing where I want the PC audio to be fed to. My audio card is a SoundBlaster Audigy 2. There seems to be a problem when DAS is activated; maybe a conflict with my audio card. Wayne |
