Default Your download/ upload speeds, Price (no bundling), Provider (Test Links In Here)

I am interested in what people pay for thier internet speeds

Format:

Download speed / Upload Speed (what your supposed to get)
Your average speed (you can do a test at:http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/)
Provider
Type (Cable/DSL/Satellite/Dial Up/Line of Sight Service)
What your company charges you (no bundling - normal stand alone price).
If applicable: how much bandwith do you get a month
If applicable: average peer to peer speeds (torrent)
Also: Average down time / or no connect you have in a month (if any)

So in the format here is mine:

4000 kbps download / 1000 kbps upload
3800 kbps download / 900 kbps upload - average speed
Westman Communications Group
Cable
$39.95 / month
15 GB download / 10 GB download (doesn't effect me - not a huge downloader)
My average is 250 k download on Azureus but on a good day I get up to 450 k download
I have never (since I have had cable internet) had down time. My modem works great. My cable co uses the same Motorola Surf Boards as Shaw (those modems work great - better than that DSL modem hassle I had with MTS)

For me to download (peer to peer) a 20 minute [no commercial] video it takes me 13 minutes. No Network management (filters peer to peer bits) for me . My speeds are always rate up there as I live on the edge of the city and their are only 7 people on the node. I am the only person who uses the internet service and I have only 4 people (including me) who have cable (digital for me). So I am the only person using the internet on the node. I also picked up from a relative in Wpg. who works for Shaw one of those $200 value signal boosters (really made a difference). Me I am 100% happy with my Internet Service. A big plus for my little area off of the city they had to raise the cost by $1 for service calls out of the way. In exchange they bumped my download to 4000 kbps permanently (everyone else within the city gets 3000 kbps). That part made a very happy.

So In the basic format I did it how does your internet par up?

If your main interest is torrent, do a search for that keyword and see the previous threads. Here's an example.

http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/show...hlight=torrent

I encourage others to provide their information. I don't understand why you ask for prices without bundling. Bundling can be very important in the decision making.

For Rogers you can simply go to their website and see the pricing/speed for the 4 different (normal) services.

http://www.shoprogers.com/store/cabl...t/internet.asp (use the "compare" and M4P 1E2, it's near me) For the individual download/upload speeds, click on the individual types.

Nominal speed
3008 kbps download / 800 kbps upload
Cybersurf (picked up by them when IStop uhh... stopped)
ADSL
$29.95 / month
I think it's unlimited, but I rarely go above 3 gigs. I don't do P2P. My "heavy duty" downloads are source-code tarballs. I run Gentoo linux, which compiles the code on my machine... optimized for my machine. On a good night I get 313 kbytes (= 2500 kbits) / sec download.

I'm listening to internet radio (I'm a Live365 subscriber) as I type this.

Telus - Vancouver Island
$32.95/mo
1350kbps down
525kbps up

I signed on for a couple years about 18 months ago at that guaranteed price. This was the "fastest" back then; now, just looking at their site, it seems I must be high speed "lite". They have a $40/mo service that's advertised as faster.

Thing is though, back when this was the "fastest" they offered, it was still the same speed it is now.

MTS in Winnipeg. DSL.

Advertised speed:

3000 kb/s down.
400 kb/s up.

Actual speed:

4500 kb/s down.
690 kb/s up.

No caps on data. At all. Ever.

Peer-to-peer is at the above speed.

No down time, other than late-night upgrades and maintenance.

$26.95 a month.

Interesting, thanks for the responses

The reason I said Without bundling is because different companies bundle different ways. It can all get confusing. Torrents are not my main thing (I am not heavy on them.. only for TV show that are not available or delayed in Canada, by providers or CRTC, for me its mainly South Park rate now, as the Comedy Network is months behind the USA Comedy Central)

That's pretty indicitive of what I get from newsgroups w/ Rogers in Kitchener. Once in a while it slows down to 3mbps, but usually it's reliably in the high 5's.

(nice to be able to copy and paste your results like that, though it did seem a bit flash heavy. :-)

Whoa... 500 Mbps? Are you sure you're right on that? And you're only paying $40 a month for that service??

Again - I disagree. Shaw Cable offers pretty much the same package you have for $38.95.

If we look world-wide, we see many countries have faster services for less money.

Your package is good, but I'd hate to break it to you - it isn't anything too special...

Ok, the fastest internet (download) speed I have ever seen are on Videtron:

http://www.videotron.com/services/en...es-xtmplus.jsp

20 mbps / download, does anybody know what the fastest available in the world would be.. I would think capitals of nations, like Washington D.C. would have private government managed internet services that offer the worlds fastest because they need to send/receive very important documents in no time flat. Anyways their would be no way to find out speeds of government internet service unless you work for them. (link please) what is the fastest public internet service people know of?

Uploads speeds are also important, I have never seen a speed above the norm of 1 mpbs, but my cable co offers 1.5 mbps upload for commercial businesses

Quote:
COMMERCIAL EXTREME - $119.95/mo
· Speed – Up to 8 Mbps download, 1.5 Mbps upload
· Bandwidth – 25GB down, 20GB up
· Email – 20 accounts
· Static IP address
· Includes 1 cable outlets

I pay $32.50 ($40 regular but with TV I get a $7.50 discount)

I get 4000 kbps download and 1000 kbps upload. So compared to MTS Lightning at 5000 kbps download and 1000 kbps upload at $40 regular. Boy, I need to rethink my mindset about DSL.. I always thought cable was faster.. I have had good service from them so I won't be switching.. but Derfel is getting really good speeds on MTS middle service DSL. I guess DSL is good. I would definitely consider it if I moved to a new residence (rate now I am the only internet user on my node )

I am a big laptop user.. really enjoy the freedom of surfing the web on the coach while watching TV. These are my speeds **with wireless internet** on the Minneapolis server:

Cable when your the only one on the node is so reliable. I loves it!
