Apparently ABC is going to announce the end date for LOST so fans have a idea of closure, it is suppose to come over the next few weeks. Rumor is it may only go for another season or one and a half.
http://www.eonline.com/gossip/kristin/ Thank God too, as they are really ruining what was once a great show. Quote:

And then, finally, the show will be re-named LaST.
Sorry, couldn't resist I've been watching the show on and off and have to admit that as much as I like most of the characters, the scenery(in glorious Hi-Def) and many actors (mmm, Evengeline Lilly....) - it's infuriating how inconsistent the show is. So much potential and so badly wasted. I'm sure it will be missed by many, but if the creators couldn't maintain the momentum of the first season, then maybe it's better that it burns and crashes while its fans still care. |

Its a great series exept for the filler episodes, the last couple episodes definitely kept me glued to the tube.

Crap - that's still TWO full seasons!!
I was hoping that at most, they'd do one more season. Even now, they're running low on story ideas and inserting a lot of fluff and filler; I predict 15 or so more good episodes that actually further the over-riding plot, and 33 fluffers (use that term however you choose |

I'm willing to give the writers/producers the benefit of the doubt here. Unlike some here, I haven't found there to be that many "filler" episodes or a significant drop-off in the quality of the episodes. Even when these filler episodes do come up I still enjoy the show.
At first I though 48 seemed like a lot...but hey, I say bring it on! Still one of the best shows on network TV (as far as I'm concerned). If they can keep it up for 48 more episodes all the better! |

I still don't think most people get it ... the Island and the story behind the Island is really irrelevant. It is just a vehicle. The series is all about the characters. And in that sense I think the writers are doing a great job. I am finding each character fascinating as we gradually learn more and more about them.
If people are looking for mystery and story development watch another program! If you are looking for good character development then LOST is the program to watch.

Take out the character development, and the show isn't as good. I can agree on that point. But to say the mystery of the Island is irrelevant? Not a chance. Case in point, the stuff at the beginning of the this season was some of the weakest. "Who will Kate choose?" Multiple episodes about that are boring compared to other Lost episodes because it's a storyline that can happen on any show, in any setting. I do watch Lost for mystery and story development. That's what hooked me in the first place. I agree that character development is important. I think you're missing the point that the Island is a character too. The writers have a rich palette at their disposal given the premise of Lost. Ignoring that palette makes for a bland picture. What's the point of having them on a strange island if you're going to ignore the strangeness of the island? Also agreed that mystery can be difficult to sustain. That's why it's important an end date has been set. They could keep on developing characters until the cows come home. The producers wanted an end date though, to keep the mystery part of the story. That in itself says the mystery is relevant. Mixing it all together is what makes Lost a quality program. It remains a show I watch each week. At least until they start ignoring the mystery and back story of the Island. |

I like the idea of 3 seasons of 16 shows, more like HBO.
I'm still 3/4 weeks behind (they just found the helicopter pilot...so thats where the chick from Vegas ended up!), but I'm liking where the show is going. Don't forget, the season finale is 2 hours as well!!

In many ways, and I think some of the first season DVD commentary said this. The island is a character as much as John, Jack or anyone else. I will say though... John is my favourite and I hope they keep him around right up until the end or near the end.

Didn't see anyone mention the fact that the native inhabitants don't age (the one that recruited Juliette for example) and they purged the Dharma-folk with Ben's help. Pretty big "Holy Crap" there.

Will it even last 3 seasons with the constant decrease in ratings?

I thought at first that he didn't age as well. But the clone idea makes a lot more sense wouldn't you agree. A little less of a "Holy Crap" I'm afraid. |

Cloning maybe but why all the focus on failed pregnancies if cloning was working. Plus the hostiles seemed pretty organized (and white) when Dharma arrived. Black Rock slaves maybe. All good stuff if you ask me.
