Default Sony SXRD, SXRD-XBR (LCoS, Not LCD) Optical Block Problems

Green Blob Problem?

Can anyone who owns the new version of 60" SXRD whether they have experienced the green blob problem or not? I want to know if I should cross this unit off list or not.

I don't know if my experience is common, but I had green blobs all over the screen one day. I turned on the TV the next morning to try to get a picture of the effect, and it was gone. I have the 50" a2000.

At the time, I'd only had the TV for a month, so the Sony Store said they'd replace it if the problem came back in the near future (and fix it if it came back later on). I suppose I could have forced the point and had it replaced, but the problem has not been back in three weeks.

I have a 5 year warranty, so I am not concerned. People who experience this problem have the optical block replaced and the problem is fixed. "If" the problem comes back, that's what I'll have done.

I've had the 50" for about 6 weeks and while I've had quite a few Shaw-related problems, the TV is great--no green blob so far (knock on wood).

Oh man, you had me worried with that subject. I thought "Nooooooo....someone had a green blob on one of the new models!" and then I saw it was a question, not a statement. Phew!

Apparently quite a few have on the new models (A2000). A salesman in Calgary admitted to me on Friday that the floor model has it every morning when they turn it on cold, and then it goes away.

The blob on start up that goes away as the set warms up is not the "Green Blob" issue. According to Sony that's normal if it's in the center of the screen and it goes away after a few minutes. (mine only lasts about 30 seconds)

The "Green Blob" issue is more serious. It's a permanent discoloration that can appear anywhere on the screen.

I have had no issues yet with my 60A2000,but I have only had it for 5 days, but have been experimeting with settings.I have noticed that the factory settings have the Hue tint setting a little to the green side anyways and I have adjusted mine to -4 (towards the red side to get flesh tones correct)I have noticed no green globs ,spots etc.. during warm up or on black and white film. You got to remember that the nature of forums like this is you will see posts of negative issues with all TV's posted more then acolades saying how great it is.There are some xxA2000 sets out there that claim to have this issue but a very small percentage compared to what have been sold.Just get the extended 5 year warranty and go for it.I watched the football game last night in HD and this set was flawless. The only issue I have seen so far is SD quality hockey game telecasts.A little soft and blurry when the action is really fast. But All Hd sets have problems with this ,because of poor SD signal quality.
On a side note, the XBR1 which seems to have the most complaints of green glob issue, has been on display at a local store here in B.C. for over a year, and I have looked at it several times and yet to see a "green Glob" issue.Believe me I am not a Sony Quality lover as I have had previous Sony products with issues, but as far as I can see the only TV that conpares to the xxa2000 sets is the JVC lcos unit.Your call, you are the one who has to watch it.

It sounds like a cable was not properly put back into its sockets so that the red and blue plugs aren't seated properly, but that's just a very preliminary guess because you haven't given us much info yet Is your Sony 50-2000A a digicam? That's what a Google of that number shows up.

1. What is the video source you are trying to watch: Cable, Satellite, OTA, DVD, etc?
2. Is the Xbox 360 still connected at this time?
3. Did he disconnect any other device in order to get his Xbox to show up on the TV?
4. probably more questions to come

See the Digital Home FAQ (under help) "Things to check first". As stampeder indicated, probably a poor/loose connection.

The cables were not well plugged, fixed that yesterday and it worked fine but the problem now is whenever I turn the TV on, it has green mostly in one channel only and that is NFL Network.

Any ideas?

Thank you

The grass on the field is usually green.

No idea, perhaps there's an issue with the channel, if all the other channels are fine.

lol, when I turn on the TV it seems to be to be a bit green for 30 mins or so and then its gets better. Its usually the yellows, the NFL network is worst though, they seem to have a shade of green. my family says it looks fine but it looks diff to me. HDTV channels look fine though. i was wondering if it maybe was the TV?

This is a common problem with Sony SXRDs. There are a variety of issues (green haze, blob, etc).

My TV has slight green areas when I turn it on, but they go away in less than a minute. I can also see slight discoloration when nobody else can and they think I'm crazy. It's certainly not enough to get a service man over to also tell me I'm crazy.

If you have the green blob problem, it seems to be an issue with the optical block (from what I've read on *************). It is covered for two years under the original Sony warranty.

Unhappy Sony SXRD XBR1 Optical Block Problem

I've read a great deal about U.S. owners having this procedure done, with mixed results.

My 60" SXRD has the yellow streak (not permanent yet at least) problem, and the only thing that fixes it is having the Optical Block replaced, or the entire TV replaced.

Has anyone had a successful OB replacement? I'm hoping someone in the GTA has, as I can ask for the same tech
