Provided the connection at the new place is "live" then you should be fine. The following could go "wrong".
1. The installed cables may not be "live" and a connection may need to be made elsewhere in the condo building (cable room). 2. You may need to call to reactivate your STB. You may want to call them a week before your move to ensure they've got your info and to see if they need to send anyone out to the condo.

You cannot call in since this is not strictly legal and since it's not necessary for a brief period of time - like a night or two. It is not legal from a long term perspective.

I understood what you meant and it's covered in various posts in this thread. So, have your buddy bring it over for the game, and if it works fine, but just don't make a habit of it.

I brought my cable box from Newmarket to my friend's house in Aurora after the ACI switch, and it works perfectly. No issues.

I subscribe to Rogers and I have a free PVR rental for life. Today I moved into a temporary furnished condo with Rogers digital cable included in the suite (digital HD box hooked up to the TV). I will be staying here for 1 month as the move-in date for my newly built condo has been delayed. I have arranged with Rogers to suspend my services starting tomorrow and then transfer everything to my new address on Dec. 15. Rogers told me to hold on to my cable boxes and bring them to my new address on Dec. 15.
My question is, can I hook up my PVR here in the furnished suite to watch programs I have on disk and to record new programs? Will my PVR function here and are there any potential consequences (i.e. will I screw up my account or the cable account here at the furnished suite)? I read through this thread but can't seem to find a clear answer. Thanks. |

Most of the PVRs will boot without a cable connection and play what's recorded on them these days - they didn't used to.
If there is not an active cable line where you're moving, you won't be able to record/watch new programmes, but often the line is active, so you'll just have to try when you get there.

Your friend needs to have it activated at his house (and pay for services, etc) as the STB was probably deactivated when you "bailed".

Ye you friend needs to speak with CSR @ Rogers and they can have the box added up to his acc. right away. If you let's say have existing account and you just the box away to you friend for a month you both actually have to call in and auth that move. If you just take it to your buddies place and works fine you'r good, but if you get not auth you still have to call CSR @ Rogers and again have it transferred to your buddy's account for the time being that sometimes will cause trouble as if you go back to your house it might give u not auth and again both of you have to call in. And not all parts of Toronto are under the 230 number.

it doesnt matter what room you move the box to, bedroom to living room then put an sd in your bed room is the same as keeping it in your bedroom, and putting the sd in your living room. rogers does not care wich outlets or Room its connected to.
as for the poster above who "bailed rogers" and gave his STB to a friend, well my godfather was given a box from his "DAD" and wanted to use it in "HIS" house. His DAD had to phone rogers, remove the SAB from the account and the additional outlet fee, then HE had to call rogers once he got to his house, and give them the SAB and activate it on "His" cable package. |
