Does anyone know the significance of the "X" at the end of the 50VS69A model number listed by The Brick. The Sales rep. says it has something to do with price matching from competitors which I don't understand one bit. I am concerned it might mean it is reconditioned or returned.

Every store like that likes to have their own specific model, so first thing they say is we price match, but its model for model and since one store may carry 50VS59AX for $600 and the other store may carry the 50VS59A for $500 and they are exactly the same item, since on has the X on the end it is not a model for model price match since no one else carries the X model they don't have to price match it.

Usually -R designates refurbished. X might mean its part of a living room set that they sold including the TV. Its definitely not a different model - maybe a demo unit, but there's nothing different inside.

He's right. My Hitachi comes up as a 51F59. When you look it up with the furniture it came with, it comes up as a 51F59X.

As a follow-up, I bought the TV. It was indeed part of a package and had no sign of the "X" on the receipt, shipping boxes, etc. As suggested correctly it was just an internal designation used by The Brick. Everything was new and factory sealed.
