Default Have You Noticed That CTV..

That CTV seems to buy up way too much programming each year? Seems they get greedy and have to pre-empt shows all the time to accomodate certain things they paid for like awards shows and sports stuff. Funny how it seems to be only them who do this and not Global as much. Then again Global has a second window in Vancouver and Toronto with thier CH channels, I think also Montreal but I am not sure.

I know CH is Hamilton but we get it in Toronto and they do consider it part of thier Toronto Market seen as Niagara Region has no ther stations in the area.

What CTV is doing is totally within their rights unless the program right holders stipulate a certain timeslot or no preemptions as part of the deal in selling them their programs. I know that some right holders have done this in the past, and that was one reason why the WB sold the rights to Smallville to CHUM instead of CTV even though CHUM was offering less money.

I was looking at CTV's message board and alot of people are pissed that they are not airing Charmed. Even though on thier web site under Charmed it says it will be aired at a later date to be determined. But what I found out was they are trying to do something about the rights, either get out of it or sell it. Man talk about misleading your viewers. Take the show away from CHUM TV who showed it on the same night it airs on The WB but an hour earlier, and be all gungho about having Charmed back on CTV and then wham! We don't know when we will return to airing it. Sad, sad.
I left a message to people stating complaining to CTV is pointless, either write to The WB, Spelling Entertainment and/or to CHUM TV stating that this is unfair and that CHUM TV did a great job airing it last season.

Well, what it probably comes down to is that CTV offered far more money than CHUM and also had more national distribution and the WB didn't really care about Canadian viewers, just about maximizing the returns on their programming.

Your best bet to get WB and UPN programming without worrying about the crap Canadian broadcasters pull is to get WPIX, KTLA and WSBK superstations, usually they come with TMN but some providers let you get them seperately.

I watch Charmed on The WB all the time, CTV is not reliable at all. People I know though don't have digital cable and have to get it if they want WB.

I think that if anything cable companies should use that more as a selling point for people to get digital cable. They could tell people if you want UPN and WB, get digital cable.

Problem with "using" that as a selling point is, cable companies already "force" you to take certain channels anyhow to get a couple you actually want. That is depending on the person mind you.
Example is my co-worker just switched over from Rogers to expressVu. He liked the fact that he can get the Locals package (all cbc, ctv, global plus independents) and he took the sports package (tsn, sportsnet 1-4, the score, golf channel, speed channel, oln) and the Music Package (muchmusic, mmm, cmt, bet, bpm, mtv, edge tv,vibe) and he only pays $31 a month. He says that to get timeshifting with rogers he would have had to pick a digital cable package just to have the option.

The only reason for that is because of the bandwidth limitations on analog cable and the fact that the extra timeshifting channels can only be fit on digital. Once all TV's are built with digital tuners built in, cable companies will be able to have the same flexibility as satellite.

let's just hope that they don't drop the ball on that. Meaning TV manufaturers. Remember that lots of people still had to get external converters because some TV's numbers would not go higher than like 80.
Oh and I am sure you read my post on Rogers reps harrassing me, well after I was told tat I am on a do not solicit list of Rogers, seems that didn't stop them. Had one come to my door yesterday evening and another on Wednesday afternoon. So I guess i had better give up my satellite system and go with Rogers to stop this harrassment. Pretty sad that you can't just enjoy something without a company harrassing you until you go with them. So I will be selling my sat syetm to a friend and order digital cable Monday and rent 3 receivers. Man I just wish they would have left me alone but seems I must be on a list to just keep pushing til i give in. I guess if ya can't beat em, join em. The sad thing is, it is gonna cost alot more for digital cable seen as the package I am/was with on Rogers gave me what i want. The package that i will have to go with now on Rogers will give me a bunch of channels I don't want. Oh well that is business. I really enjoyed my ExpressVu for 2 and a half years but if this is not gonna stop then I guess that this is the alternative. What do you think?

And to the moderator, I am not slamming any retailer here so please do not ban me?? If you do well then it has been fun and I understand.
Just that I really do not know what to do about this situation and am asking people if what I am gonna do is the best thing.

What your giving up! You can't do that, its what they want. Heck they'd probably still harrass you. (I'm not knocking Roges Just the company canvassing the area).

Just tell 'em to f*@! off  when they come to your door. Don't even open it yell at 'em thru the door. Become the meanest  , most nasty  person who ever lived when they come to the door. Put a sign up and tell 'em to read it. Walk away from the door and turn up some music real loud so you don't hear 'em knocking.

Do have a sign on your door that says "Don't try to sell me Rogers, I don't want it" or "I don't want cable, I don't have a TV"

I have meat ALOT of stupid people who don't know that NO SOLICITING means do try to sell me stuff.

Someone else here mentioned that you should try your buildings managers for help. Most buildings have a No Soliciting rule they should be enforcing.

Well now from reading your message you have given me some strength. I called Rogers, talked to a mamger who got the ass't to the VP to call me and she is personally taking care of this situation. She said this is an ongoing problem that these contracted companies are doing with thier salesmen they hire. Basically telling them to pry and pry if you keep saying no. She told me one guy got punched in the face and so I think Rogers may have to re-evaluate thier idea of contracting out sales.
I have a sign on my door reads:

NO ROGERS CABLE SOLICITING ALLOWED
I'm Not Interestd In Cabel
Not Interested In Internet Access
Leave Us Alone!!!

Think that is ok?

If I may jump in here, we should keep this discussion confined to CTV programming practices. The Rogers over-solicitation thread is here.
