Default I'm a 43 Year old Virgin........subscriber

That's right!

I became a Virgin subscriber this weekend. Purchased a new Samsung SPH-A60 wireless phone for $169 (came with $10 airtimes). I could have bought a cheaper phone but this one just seemed much nicer than the inexpensive models.

I bought $25 in airtime and I figure I will puchase $100 top ups in the future, provided it all works in the next few days!

I am a light wireless phone user so I figure this should save me a ton of cash over my old low level wireless plan.

I figure my monthly airtime usage won't be much more than Bell's soon to be implemented $8.95 system access fee.

Picture below is the Samsung phone which also has a camera, I doubt I'll ever use.

It varies depending on which 'plan' you go on. I went on the most expensive (25 cents per minute) because its a true per minute usage.

You can get 10 cents per minute if you commit to 40 cents per day.

Thats a good deal, my Rogers pay as you go plan is $.33 per min. However I got the phone for free when I bought the first $100 worth of minutes....at Costco...

Hugh, I just topped up with the $100/365 day expiry option. Glad now I don't have to think about top-up till September 2007. I registered my CC so now top-ups only require going into My Account, picking the amount, enter PIN and Bob's your uncle.

I was a bit peeved that they eliminated the $15/120 day expiry cards but there was no better option.

A colleague of mine just picked up the LG3300 and he's going with the 40˘/day plan. With a few short calls per day - which is what he tends to make - his average per-minute fee (including the 40˘) will be pretty low.

I was looking at the A640 on the weekend. Nice phone. I'd buy one today...if only my current phone (with Bell) would die!!

It is just sad that Virgin Mobile didn't choose to roam on Rogers/Fido in Canada. Virgin is from the UK, where GSM is king....

I have a French Virgin SIM and ironically, it roams on Rogers, here..

Also too bad they don't offer the same prices and services, like per second billing, from the very first second, like it is offered over there.

The a640 looks like a very nice phone and it has Bluetooth as well.

If it's good enough for Hugh. It's good enough for me.

I picked one up today. The only thing I would have really liked would be proper web connectivity. Either to browse direct from the phone or to bridge blue tooth and use it as network for my laptop.

That commonality is a couple years away though.

Charging battery up as I type. Thanks for posting info on your new gear. I'm the same kind of infrequent user.

kremb, what pressure! I hope your happy with it.

My needs are very basic so as long as it holds a charge, allows me to get my voicemail easily and doesn't fall apart, I'll be happy.

Now, all the money I save on wireless, I can spend on more toys!

Nice!! I admit I'm not a big fan of Samsung phones but this one does appeal to me quite a bit.

If anyone is interested, the phone is currently on sale at WalMart for $127.00. I bought one on the weekend, nice phone indeed. I believe the sale ends on Oct 6th.
