was at a sony store in edmonton yesterday expressing interest in a 34xbr800. i was quoted $3700.00 and $560.00 for the stand. (no pst as its alberta) when the sales rep. found out i wouldnt be buying for at least three months he showed me a sales bulliten from sony canada that stated that there was new 34xbr in the works for early summer. it showed as kv34xbr1000(not 910) it also said that there would be a kv30xbr1000 available at the same time. he went on to say that the kv34xbr800 would be re-released as an HS series in the $3000.00 range. the name will apparently change but retain all the identicle components!!!!!!! the list for the new kv34xbr1000 is $3995.00. all of this info was confirmed by a source at premiere audio in edmonton. this source also indicated that this will be a major overhaul of the xbr line not just a minor change.all of this will make for a difficult decision. existing model(new name) for3g or new revamped for4g??? has anyone else heard opf this??? I read the bulliten myself. also considering toshiba 34hdx82 but cant find in edmonton are these sets available in canada yet???? im new here (first post) and would appreciate any comments or advise as im also new to this whole home theatre deal

The Toshiba set that you are looking is in fact available up here in Canada (at Futureshop nonetheless). I was about to buy the Toshiba 34HDX82 until I looked around the corner and saw the stunning picture on the Sony 34XBR800. I too was quoted the same price as you were and decided to opt for the Sony instead. As far as the new line of Sonys becoming available by summer, I just heard that as well. Am I sad that I bought too early, no. The 34XBR800 is a great set with a great picture and awesome features. Now if Sony decides to do something drastic like include voice operated commands or include an HD tuner in their replacement and keep it at the same price, then I would be disappointed!

THe 34XBR800 has been replaced by the 34HS510 - exact same TV. I should hope the 510 being a new model had a few bug fixes...
Don't spend the extra money on an outdated model, get the 510 for $3199 or less, I recommend A&B Sound in Alberta. The Toshiba HDX82 is being replaced by the HF83 & HFX83 which is also cheaper than the HDX, it should be in Canada any day now. PS The prices I have been quoted here in BC @ A&BSound is $2810 for the HS510, $2300 for the HF83 and $2420 for the HFX83. ANdrew |

I got tired of waiting for the Toshiba and picked up a HS510 for about $2600.
Great set, beautiful colours and clarity. Andrew |

Anyway, I asked an A&B sales guy about the XBR910 today and he said that they aren't allowed to carry that model, including Futureshop. It is only going to be available to the Sony store and other high-end electronics store in Canada. |
