Question How to record one channel while watching another

I was wondering if somebody could please help me! I don't have the HDTV but I do have Shaw Digital using the Motorola Digital Box. I was wondering how to tape one channel and watch another. I know that you can't tape a Digital Channel and watch another channel, but I want to tape an analog channel and watch another analog or digital channel.

Thank you!

To record an analog channel while watching another digital/analog channel, use a splitter like so:

Wall -> Splitter -> Cable Box -> TV
Wall -> Splitter -> VCR -> TV

You can then switch back and forth between the two inputs using the PIP functionality of your set, and continue to watch a digital or analog channel while another analog channel is taping.

See also the Digtal Home FAQ (under help) "how to connect a VCR & STB" This will also allow you to record a digital channel when you want to...

If you also have a split directly to your TV, you could be recording a digital channel and watching an analogue channel on your TV's internal tuner.

Default Free service calls

If you can't do it yourself, call Shaw and have a Tech install an A/B switch or help you set it up as mentioned above.

It would really help if you told us what model your receiver is. If it's a single tuner PVR then you can't watch one show while recording another. That would require 2 tuners to "tune in" both shows at the same time.

Unless you run one leg of the split to the TV itself (to watch a subset of channels). I've hade both tuners recording on my 3416 and watched shows via the TV's tuner
