Okay, doing any sort of web search on over-the-counter wonder drugs is freaky and time wasting, so I'll ask this here just to see what others have found when taking Glucosamine for joint health. People young and old are taking it, and we even gave it to our elderly cat in the last couple of years of his long, long life.
I know the pro arguments for taking it, but I'm sort of in the con camp now because when I take Glucosamine as a joint health prophylactic (i.e. tending to prevent or ward off future problems) I get the opposite reaction: my joints start to crack, and rather loudly too. When I stop taking it, the cracking stops. Also one of my neighbours complains of feeling "heavy" in the joints when he takes it. What's your take on Glucosamine's bad sides? Do the pros outweigh the cons? |

Knee surgery to remove a torn cartilage in 2000 revealed I have osteoarthritis in one knee. A glucosamine/chondroitin mix reduced pain and swelling from exercise after taking it for ~ 30 days. Problems returned ~ 15 days after stopping. I stopped taking it several times over 4 years, but each time, the pain and swelling returned after a few weeks. Finally, in 2004 I stopped and the pain/swelling didn't return. I haven't taken it since. I noticed no side-effects while taking it.

We give it to our dog. My understanding is that Glucosamine is an anti-inflammatory, so you shouldn't take other anti-inflamatories at the same time.

My wife takes it. Her physician checks her blood pressure whenever she sees him. He says that glucosamine can elevate blood pressure.

glucosamine is a non naturally occurring Amino Acid, which means that you have to obtain it through your diet, you can get it from food or you can cheat like everybody else and take it as a supplement
bottom line is there shouldn't be any complication from having a Non steroidal anti-inflammatory(NSAID) with your glucosamine supplements |
