Walking in with a credit card in your hand and saying $xxxx and you can swipe it, does wonders for salesmen sometimes

Went to the store and the sales person said it because you need a good power source and filter, is this true??
He also said you need the best cables HDMI at $180. I don't beleive the 180$ cable is better then $75 personally. What do you think, by the way I saw the banding clearly on one set but faint on another and invisible on another 52 d62 U. Can it be something else a combination of wires being used. Is it only seen with TV broadcasts or DVD too. The sales person said your too colse to watch the TV when I was looking for this issue LOL. |

A $5 HDMI cable would work fine for 3-6 feet. It's digital so the picture would be there, or it won't. Real long distances might need cabling with better shielding.
Banding is believed to be caused by the light not being spred evenly within the back of the TV. Nothing to do with cables. Surge protector, maybe if your power company is bad or you get alot of lightning storms. Cables, connectors, power bars....this is what the salesman [Ireally[/I] wants to sell you. The profit margin on them is very high, very. The $180 dollar cable might have cost 5-10 dollars to make, so they can make as much on that as they did on selling the TV. When I bought my TV for the price they didn't want to sell it at, they tried to sell me everything they could possibly think of. Just keep saying no, or say you will buy it from him later and see if that shuts them up, then just don't go back. Don't negotiate a price for the TV and other stuff, just work on the TV.

Thanks for your advice.
Is this banding problem really there on all sharp models or specific ones. The tv looks great and has good specs. How do you decide which one does not have banding, after all it comes in a box. |

Or you can negotiate the price of the TV and all the high markup stuff eg. cables, surge protectors, wall mount, extended warranty at the same time giving the impression you want all that high markup stuff and once you get the TV down to the price you want, with them thinking you'll take the other stuff, close the deal grab the TV and as you're about to pay just let the cashier know you'll come back for the other stuff another time.
Not that I've ever done anything like that before! HEHEHE

The only real way to check for banding is to see the set in action. I went to collect my 46D62 this afternoon but the set they had in stock for me had unacceptable (by my standards anyway) banding on the set so I need to wait for them to get me another later this week. Getting the right sales person is a long way towards getting the right set and luckily I found one!

.....if you play the game. Actually A&B advertizing the 46D62U in their current flyer @$2799. However extremely limited stock and what's left are serialized 611xxxx. So went to Visions and their best price quote was $2899. After getting this price, showed them A&B's price and they indicated their price beat policy would apply (beat competitor by 5%). So can buy one of their's for $2799-5% or $140 for total of $2660! BEst price I got to date. That's the good news; bad is the four they had in stock (Edmonton east) were ALL serialized 611XXXX.....
Frank ps- still contemplating but with prices like this its getting harder to hold off..... |

my 611x 42D62U is band free, not sure how closely tied to banding the little brother of the line is to the middle one though.
Worst case is you take it back before 30 days is up?

So are they gonna keep producing this series all year? If so I guess the newer shipments will be banding free?

I have been following this thread with great interest and as a result of some of the comments, I have decided to hold-off on purchasing the D62 model...I am, however, eagerly awaiting for the D92's, which apparently arrive this week.
I have contacted, and heard back, from a couple sources on the pricing for the LC46D92 model. Here are the pricing quotes thus far (please feel free to share any quotes you obtain, and if you are interested in the above model and in Toronto, let me know as we should be able to get a better price if there are a few of us on here interested in it). BBR - $4,200 Regency Audio Video - $3,575.00 |

There appears to a new firmware update out for the Sharp D62Us. To my knowledge, its effect has not been reported. See some of the posts at http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...&page=19&pp=30.

Post #8354 at http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...page=285&pp=30 has a pretty good picture of a Sharp LCD with banding.
In the Sharps, banding seems to involve vertical and/or horrizontal bands that are visible on a service screen, a blank input screen, gray screens. Depending upon the severity of the bands, they can be seen during ordinary viewing, especially in rapid pans across sand, water, sky or fog. On my set, they were particularly noticeable during the storm scene in Master and Commander. Banding seems to be a species of uneven backlighting (sometimes called a mura effect) that affects the LCD screens of many manufacturers. In the 2006 Toshiba Regzas, the bands were called ghost bars. In the case of the high-end Sony and to a lesser degree Samsung LCDs, people talked about clouding and flashlighting. I've read reports of uneven backlighting on a variety of other makes and models. However, they seem to have been reported most often on large-screen LCDs with high contrast ratios and resolutions. The frequency may, of course, be a consequence of the higher expectations of the people who bought these more expensive sets. Hope this helps. |
