From my understanding of HDMI 1.3, it enhances colour on multiple screens, such as overlay menus. On a single screen, which is 99% of what you are watching, the 1.3 improvements seem negligible. If somebody could provide more info here, or correct me, that would be great.

The big deal is the sound. If you are spending a bunch of money on a receiver, you want to wait for HDMI 1.3 so that you'll be able to hear the next generation of audio formats.

You won't be able to decode the sound formats on a TV. So, a Sony a2000, to keep this on topic, wouldn't benefit enough from HDMI 1.3 to wait, in my opinion.

Could this be the real reason for the recent price drops?
Just when I was ready to go pick up a new 50A2000

What do you think guys, is better SD reason enough to wait god knows how long for? Not to sound negative but just around the time the new A2500 start showing up the SLIM SXRDs will be on the horizon (Q1 07)

New Sony KDS-60A2500 and KDS-50A2500

Sony rolled out some new HDTVs for the Japanese market this winter, some of which have already been announced in the US, the rest we hope soon will be. The biggest new news appears to be that their advanced Digital Reality Creation (DRC-MFv2.5) circuitry is moving downmarket, into the cheaper A2500 series of LCoS HDTVs. The two new RPTVs announced are the KDS-60A2500 and KDS-50A2500, 60- and 50-inches respectively. They'll accept and display 1080p just like their American A2000 cousins, but now with enhanced upscaling technology for non-1080p inputs. At an estimated 600,000 and 500,000 yen respectively, that would give them about a $500-US price bump over the previous 50- and 60-inch LCoS HDTVs and are slated to ship September 15th.

Don't know. If they are, they should be announced at CEDIA this week.

I personally doubt we'll see them. IMO, there are just too many A2000s in the retail and distribution channels to introduce a replacement this soon. More likely, the changes + HDMI 1.3 will come with the low profile designs slated for release 1Q or 2Q 2007.

Check it out, the price for the xbr2 is know 4999.99 almost the same as what I predicted... (so eat it non believers I am always right).

By the way I finally found out (after a long talk with the sony rep) what is truely different between the xbr2 and the A2000 at least in the picture quality department. The A2000 Can take in 1080p signals, and it can output 1080p signals however after recieving the signal it first downconverts it to 1080i then upconverts it back to 1080p. The XBR2 takes the signal, process and outputs all in 1080p. (this is actually why the pc input is capped at 1280x 1024x)

Hope you guys are excited about this tv as much as I am...

Default A2000 Questions

I have two questions concerning the A2000:

1) If I was to buy one today, would the 1080i problem be resolved and a non issue?

2) How is SD material on this tv? I have an Expressvu 6100 that I would be using.

My biggest concern with the A2000 is the green blob/haze problem. It seems chronic and unresolved on the AVS thread for this set.

I would have to think it really depends on the source. I saw analog Global via Shaw and it looked watchable for sure on a 60A2000", but soft.

I also saw TSNHD Rogers cup tennis via express vu and it looked terrible. It was a SD broadcast that was upconverted to TSN and it really was distressing. Then a couple channels over on Raptors TV was an upconverted SD game and it looked really good.

What I really found is its a great tv in HD, but didnt handle some sources of SD that well while others were acceptable.

The LPF fix will probably be published somewhere on the internet, so probably not an issue at all.

Hi, I hope the Canadian KDS-R**XBR2 comes with a lamp and the .ca site is a typo, supposebly based on info I've read the lamp on the KDS-R**XBR2 is only rated at 4,000 hr's and the Canadian site say's 8,000 hrs...

From what I understand the Dumbo Ears are only detachable on the 70" model.

A2000 has a DRC (Digital Reality Creation) v 1.0
XR2 have DRC V 2.5

Also not 100% sure but there is suppose to be a diffrence in the Wega Engine used. XBR2 uses the new Wega HD engine and the A2000 just a Wega Engine...

I sure hope the prices on these drop significantly more!!!

I so want one. So saving up my pennies.

I've been waiting for this TV for awhile - gonna pick up a 60", the stand, and an extended warranty from A&B Sound. I'm going to wait until I read some reviews first, just to put my mind at ease. I don't have to be the first to get one, just the first out of my friends (and none of them can afford this TV).
