There was a problem with the HD satellite feed. It was resolved in the first hour, but the changeover had to be delayed to make a safe transition.

Just out of curiosity, why is this Saturday's game (July 29 - B.C. at TORONTO) listed as being in HD on CBC's TV CFL schedule but it is not listed in the HD Schedule for July 24 - July 30, 2006?

Also why aren't the first three games in August going to be in HD?

I would humbly suggest that "resolved" should mean resolved for viewers. So it wasn't 'resolved' until 3/4's of the game was over.

Would it be possible to investigate whatever satellite, encoding, and transmission methods and equipment TSN uses? TSN does way more hours of HD coverage and they rarely experience the glitches, foul-ups, and macroblocking that seems to plague almost many live CBC-HD broadcasts.

Perhaps CBC could copy or emulate some of TSN's best practices and reduce how often these problems happen.

Can you tell us what this means... for example what is a safe or unsafe transition?

Couldn't they have done the changeover during one of the dozens or more commercial breaks?

What was special about that point in the last moments of the third quarter that made it worth holding off fixing the problem?

The truck will not be ready for the start of the hockey season. CBC builds its own trucks, so it 'arrives' when it's built and tested. I will post something as it nears completion, but that is months away.

Just out of curiousity Marc, how well did the finals in HD go over? Do you folks have any stats yet on the number of viewers watching in HD vs SD? If so, are the number promising?

Too bad about the truck... hopefully it's ready before Christmas.

The program ratings are not broken down into SD or HD. I see them as programs only.

Transmitter testing is scheduled to begin in September.

Do you know how long the Ottawa transmitter testing will take? (or a guesstimate based on how long it took for the other locations - toronto, vancouver)

For Ottawans just be patient with Marc and the CBCers. The Vancouver test period went smooth as silk to us home-viewers, but in the many months since then a few bugs have been worked on, but what a great job they've done!

Interesting to get it OTA before I get it from SC. Now let's see if we get non-Leafs hockey games. Am I thinking out loud?

I will keep an eye for it! Channels 22 and 25, right?
