Default 50HDX82 Screen and waviness

Has anyone looked at their built-in protective screen (High Contrast TheaterShield) at an angle, in a brightly lit room, and noticed if it is smooth as glass or has some "waviness" and some distortion running vertically. I noticed a rippling on mine but it does not seem to affect the picture. Any comments?

Normal. I've actually read of some people replacing this with real glass, but the thought of it breaking scares me. With glass that thin, you really could put someone's head through the TV!

I wouldn't replace the screen with real glass! Interesting that it does not affect picture quality. Also, it seems to only be on Toshibas...the Hitachis and the Sony I checked out (and also the Mitsus) did not have this "feature".

If you look at them with the right lighting and at the right angle, I'm sure you'll see some degree of 'warping' in any rear-projection set.
