US Networks out of Presque IsleÉ. Just checked TV Fool for my home town (Edmundston) and there is nothing listed for DTV in Northern Maine except for PBS.

Cheers, K

Well I've reduced my bill down to Basic Shaw Direct satellite. By combining OTA and FTA satellite along with Netflix, I find Basic SD sat is more than enough. My goal this year is to drop Basic satellite so I have no monthly TV bills either.

There's WAGM (CBS & Fox) 69 miles from Fredericton in Presque Isle. That would be receivable unless the pattern is blocked.

Hey everyone, I've been snooping around these forums for a while but still very new to OTA TV. I recently canceled Eastlink and purchased a Terk indoor amplified antenna. So far so good with very little adjusting. My question is, i recently lost CBC. I mean completely. Global and CTV are clear and strong but nothing on CBC. Does the weather, wind and/or cloud cover affect the signal enough to lose the channel? I live in an apartment in Clayton Park along the 102 highway. I'm very close to 4 towers, say 1/4 km away.

I am watching CBC from Halifax now on an amplified set of rabbit ears. I am 14 miles from the transmitter. It is crystal clear. Since you are only 1/4 mile away from the towers, I don't think weather could be a factor. It sounds more like something local in your system is wrong. You are so close to the transmitter that you should be able to just put a random piece of wire on your antenna terminals and be able to receive CBC.

Added: Have you tried re-scanning your channels from your TV? Maybe the CBC channel got deleted, hidden, etc.

Assuming CBC is digital: I would try a complete rescan on your tuner.

CBC in Halifax is CBHT-DT Ch 39 (Virtual 3.1).

I'm doing another re-scan now. Easily picking up 5.1 and 8.1. Thanks for the fast responses!

Try turning off the amplifier, if you can (unplug power if necessary). You are so close to the transmitters that maybe that amplifier is adding distortion due to the overly strong signals being received. CBC is the strongest of the three stations.

Agreed with above: Too much signal is just as detrimental as not enough.

It's now my turn to complain about not receiving CBHT-DT Ch 3.1 in Halifax. I have never had a problem to receive it but today when I turned on the OTA, the TV could not lock the CBC signal. So I re-scanned and surprise CIHF1 (Global) appeared on Ch 8.1. Global must have boosted their signal since I've never been able to receive it before. But still no CBC. CTV is fine on Ch 5.1 as usual. I'm 14 miles from transmitters using amplified rabbit ears. The amplifier is needed to receive Global.

I'm not sure if this helps:
CTV is using the C100 FM tower, whereas Global and CBC are using the CBC tower.
CTV is using more power so its Valley retransmitter has a usable signal.

Yes, I was aware that CBC and Global shared the same tower. Global transmitter power is (was?) significantly lower than CBC so I wasn't surprised before that I never received it with an indoor antenna "way out" east of Cole Harbour. I can receive CTV even without the amplifier turned on but not CBC. The only thing odd is we are receiving an ice hail storm right now.

Added: So the final story here after trying various things is that I can now only receive CTV and Global. No CBC anymore. Perhaps swapping CBC for Global is a good idea anyway! Curious to know if anybody knows any technical changes that may have occurred at the CBC tower or with respect to transmitter power changes.
