Thanks for the answers ... when you got your rotor did you look at a Radio Club for it from the usual suspects (ebay and Craigslist)?

Those are good resources. Though I found mine on Kijiji. The key is to look beyond your local area, as rotators are such a niche item--and patience, as they don't come up for sale very often. I ended up finding mine in Hamilton, which isn't too far from Kitchener.

If you must buy new, the good news is that Wilspin has had some good experiences with the Eagle Aspen. And, as mentioned, the AR-40 is an excellent solution that's not too expensive.

Google "Ontario Swap Shop" and see the listings there. Ham rotors pop up from time to time.

Default Rotor Clicking Like Crazy

i wasn't sure where to post this so I cross posted in a couple places, hope that's ok.

I have a 9521 rotor, when I connect it to my antenna it appears fine until I try to use it, than it just clicks like crazy, a really fast ticking and the display goes kind of wonky. When I disconnect it from the antenna rotor wire it works perfectly fine. So it seems it doesn't work under load but otherwise it's fine?

Any ideas at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all,

Matt

The control box is making the noise, or the rotor itself?

Are you certain the connections are on the correct circuit?!

mattsse,
same questions as Jase88. with the addition of:
Is this a new installation? Was it working fine all along and then suddenly stopped working, has never worked
or what?

On a side note, this would definitely be the right thread for your query, so ya may wanna delete the posts from the other 2 or 3 forums while you still can. I think that may save a little work for the busy moderators around here.

The wires are likely shorting out somewhere. That is the exact same behavior mine exhibited when the wires were touching. Works fine now since I found the problem.

Has anyone had success use the Eagle Aspen ROTR 100 will a CM 7777 preamp using just a single coax cable? From the users reporting like Willspin and Skydrive ... they are using 2 cables and not the single. Thanks.

Yes, sort of ( see below ) - this works great, although I don't presently use it much due to an attic installation with a 91XG.

Please note that I have a 1713 driving a CM7777 in VHF mode only with FM trap. I have the 91XG driving a Kitztech. Those get joined by a UVSJ and that drives a Skywalker SKY38321.

The ROTR 100 connects up to the SKY38321, so I don't think that's exactly what you wanted to hear.

The one cable solution does not work when you want to split the signal for other tuners before the room where the control is.

I have an 8-way splitter in my setup, but you have to get one with "DC-PASS" on at least the one leg that goes to the rotor.

That sounds like a "specialized" item. Did you have trouble finding it?

Turns out I lied a little ( or at least didn't get the facts correct ). I went up into my attic last night ( don't worry, here in Florida it's not so stinking HOT anymore, plus it rained all day ). I think I have a proper description now.

Let's start from the unit Inside the house and look at the Rotor Control Unit:
The coax that comes out of your wall goes into your Rotor Control Unit.
Another piece of coax goes from that Unit to your TV.

Now let's go into the attic :
That piece of coax that went into your wall now goes into the Rotor.
Another coax comes out of the Rotor and into 1 of the Splitter Outputs.

This means you don't have to worry about "POWER-PASS" or "DC-PASS".

I did lie a little, because I actually am using a 6-way Splitter ( although I do possess an 8-way one - SKY23308 ).

Wow a rotor in the attic? Must be a big one. But you do not have a preamp. It will be more complicated if so and not really feasible to split before the rotor on a tower.

what we need, now that someone finally came out with a diseqc rotor and it seems to be working well (based on Wilspin's reports so far) , is a PC based ATSC tuner card that can send diseqc commands.
