Default 9200 Flakey PVR

Hey Guys,

Firt time post... awsome sight, lot of great info.

I had the 9200 installed last week and have not been able to get a PVR'ed program to not skip/hesitate or pixelate every 5 seconds on play back. It is not how it is recorded because it does not skip in the same place every time. I have tried playing back on my HD TV and on my 27 inch CRT hooked to tuner 2 and it happens on both, ruling out the TV as the problem.

I called BEV support and they said they are working on it and will send an update to everyone having the similar problem? Figured if there were this many people having a problem I would have heard and found something here. I have spent a lot of time searching to see if people have had the same problem, but I have found none.

Can anyone enlighten me on what may be happening. Bell has not really said much to me.

Thanks for any advice or help!

Drew

I had a similar problem 2 weeks ago on my 8-month old 9200. Called Bell, and level 2 tech support concluded that it was a faulty hard drive. I received the replacement PVR 2 days later, and the problem did not reoccur (knock on wood!).

I think you got one of my old machines!

I'm on my fourth 9200 which has been working flawlessly for almost 2 weeks (knock on veneer). First one had the 0551 after 3 days, next two replacements (refurbs?) had the same pixelation/stuttering problem on PVR playback as well as audio dropouts on live TV. BEV replaced all three without hesitation, blaming the hard drive each time.

I'd call BEV and get it replaced rather than waiting for the next (phantom) software release. Some of these machine appear to actually work as advertised.

Thumbs down

Hey,

My 4th 9200 is on the way. The first 2 had the 0551 hard drive error, and then the third has glitches every couple of seconds on anything recorded.

My warranty is up on Sept. 22, 2006. Do I have to hope I get a good one by then? It has been 6 months and I think the thing has worked properly for 5 days. It sucks that the warranty is running out while we are sending recievers back and forth.

The second time they forgot to send it out, so they said they would rush it out in 3 days, I waited a week and called back, they forgot to send it again, so that time it took 3 weeks instead of 5 to 7 days.

How does the replacement work with rented receivers. Does a Bell tech come to your house and exchange it, or do you have to pay to ship it to them? Can you do an OTC exchange at Bell World or Espace Bell?

I had a 9200 installed on Tuesday. I am having the exact same issue. They told me about the software upgrade too. I am on hold waiting for a tech now. I want it replaced as I am unable to use the 9200 as a PVR at this point. I'll let you know how I make out.

Hi, to clarify, which issue are you having? The pixelation/stuttering problem during PVR playback?

I ma having a problem with freezing/stuttering when watching any PVR material. I just got off the phone with Bell. THey are sending me a new 9200 even though they say that it won't fix the problem. The CSR I was talking to couldn't understand why I was was not happy about spending $600 plus tax on a PVR that didn't work.

Just FYI, my 8-month old PVR started to act like this 3 weeks ago, while it had been working without any issues since then. It has also been using the same software (v142) for a couple of months, without these problems, so I really doubt it is software-related. After concluding it was related to the hard drive, Bell sent me a first replacement, which showed the same problematic behaviour. Called Bell, and they concluded again it was a faulty HD: 2nd replacement is on its way, I am supposed to get it on Monday...... really weird all these problems with 9200 all of a sudden.

I just received my 9200 for my 50 inch SXRD last Tuesday. I am impressed with the receiver, this is what the SXRD was made for! However, I've recorded 4 shows and they all have video/audio cutting out every 20 to 50 seconds. It's worse on HD recording and not very noticeable on SD.

Called BEV yesterday and they said they were "aware of the problem and will send the information to their technology division and try to come up with a solution". I have a hard time believing they are going to solve this through software revisions. They also said they may call later during the day, but never did. I'll give them a few days but I'm skeptical...

They said the same thing to me. I basically said that I bought a HD PVR and that I can't use it as a PVR. After a long discussion they agreed to replace it for me but said that it might not fix the problem.

Let me know it this fixes the problem or not (or if something else fixes it)

Thanks.

Default freeze/stutter playback problem

They couldn't explain why this freeze/stutter playback problem is showing up on receivers that previously didn't have the problem. But they assure me it's not a hardware problem.
I think they did an experiment that went terribly wrong!!
I also suspect that this has something to do with the satellite move, signal strength increase and making room for more channels. They're trying to fit in more channels, more compression and now found out that what they did caused PVR playback errors.

I hope somebody gets fired for it.

They told me yesterday that it would be fixed in early April. They also promised me a 1-month credit. If every PVR owner gets a 1-month credit, you can bet they'll be working hard on fixing the problem.

Unhappy On my 3rd receiver

I am having the exact same problem, sound and video drop every 20 or 30 seconds on HD PVR playback. SD seems OK. I am also on my 3rd receiver since Feb16,06. I will phone Bell and complain once again but wonder if a 4th receiver will be any better ???

They send it out prepaid by Purolator and you send the old one back prepaid.
