James, if you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for your HS10?

I've been quoted at $6000 at three different stores. Considering the HS10 is selling for about $2500US in the States, I find it a bit over priced. But I'm still considering it for my theater.

As for when it's available, I heard it's scheduled for delivery in early January.

2500 USD. I ordered it from J&R out of NYC. It's on backorder.

I have some friends who have had excellent results from these guys in Japan. Many AVS Forum people also have had positive results.

http://www.pricejapan.com

Their prices are competitive, and they usually have projectors listed that are not yet available in North America.

I thought about PJ.com and decided against it. This projector came out in Japan in October.

Default Warranty from the U.S.

Does anyone know if the U.S. EXTENDED Warranty is valid here in Canada?

I am pretty sure the manufacturer's warranty is not...however my U.S. dealer said the extended warranty would be valid here, actually everywhere.

Either way, I have ordered one from the U.S., and may purchase the extended warranty.

Thanks.

Hey James! I am considering this unit as well and I've got a couple of questions for you:
1) Did ya get it yet?
2) If so, how does standard tv look? (I'll be watching regular StarChoice mostly, don't have HD yet)
3) How much did it end up costing you in CDN $ (tax, exchange, duty, etc...)
Thanks!

Picked it up from Canadian Sound in Brampton for 5k (regular 6k). G&G Electronics was selling it for 4800. Both were sold out.

DVDs look great (component video). Satellite tv and Digital cable looks pretty good. Not as good as DVD put it's more than acceptable.

Surprisingly, analogue cable looked okay. I was expecting grain from corner to corner.

I had ordered it from the US, but i cancelled after waiting nearly 6 weeks. It would have been about 4,000 plus taxes and any UPS fees.

Thanks, for the quick response!
What are you using as a screen?

For now a wall. I'm painting it on the weekend, so the picture should improve even more. Screens are too expensive. If i want to uprade, i might check out the screeen goo product:

James,

What colour are you going to paint? I've done some experimentation and think that using the Behr Ultra White Matte with 2-4 drops of black works really well. You can get it at Home Depot, I can't remember the exact code but its on the grays page in the back of the big Behr colour catalog in the most extreme upper left corner (something like 000-83).

Using bright white alone leaves the blacks just a tad too bright IMHO. Going too dark (which I did originally) makes the brights and the whites not quite as "punchy".

Whatever you do, do not use anything but flat matte finish. I tried eggshell just for kicks and found that if anything touch the wall, any small amount of wiping would "buff" the screen locally making for awful looking hotspots. Fingerprints and such imediately are visible. Using the matte finish also makes the screen very tolerate of imperfections on the wall surface.
