Thank You dosborne, my hands are tied somewhat and I felt unable to say that this was impossible, so I just hoped for a knowledgeable poster and there you are.

Thanks.

Verified with this guy I know that was in the SAT departement for 5 years (I guess Nimiq 1 that makes him knowledgeable enought)...he says that the location ID wold be different than it should be if the receiver is hooked to a diferrent telephone line than it should be

If the location ID that you/they are referring to is the same one that is available on the TV screen in the System Information menu option, then I must say you have been misinformed. An internet search will turn up numerous programs that only require the receiver ID and the time in order to calculate the Location ID.

Seems that some people here know better than long time agent...

I guess there is no much more we could say about buying and selling receivers that wasn't discussed already, before this other subject turns into a war about who knows better about the location ID (SAT vs Digital Home posters) I suggest that we close that thread...

location ID had nothing to do with a phone line and anyone who is actually "knowledgeable" with BEV equipment knows it is a simple program which gives off an ID based on receiver ID and time of day.

I'm not implying that anyone is stupid, just potentially misinformed. I also stated that this may not be the same Location ID that your friend is referring too.

As I stated, a simple internet search turned up a number of programs to calcluate the Location ID used by Dishnet and EV. One is a simple HTML page with javascript. I was able to enter the time and receiver number and match to the Location ID provided via my receiver.

All this is of course off topic for this thread.

Lidcalc has not worked for dp receivers since last year, a frimware upgrade changed the algorthymn.

All the same the location id is not affected by the phone line, what th SAT team told AEV was incorect. Like what was said above it is generated by the recevier id and time.

That's what computers are made for. I certainly don't expect EV CSRs to do it. Analysis of the exceptions found by software would be a job for EV employees.

Is anyone sell 5900? I want to get 2 of them. I called Bell to buy a refurb that someone told me about and they told me that they don't have any. So let me know if you want to get rid of one or where I can buy one used. Thanks

Default ex subscriber - stuff for sale question

I haven't been a subscriber to Expressvu for more than 10 months now. I had a setup for 1 hdtv & 1 regular tv. When I canceled, they asked me to return the hdtv receiver but left me with the hdtv dish and the regular tv receiver #4100. In an effort to tidy up all the stuff lying around my den, I'm going to put it up for sale on craiglist in Victoria, BC. Can someone tell me what price to ask for it? The dish has the mounting hardware & the wires right up to the entry into the house. The receiver includes the remote & manual. All of it is in pristine shape.

why don't you sell it on the digital home buy and sell thread.

50 for each

Do you own the 4100? Or is it a rental? If it was a rental they should of took it back. You also can't sell it if it was a rental.

Do you think it would work? I figured it wasn't worth while trying to package up the dish because of the size and the cost it would take to ship it somewhere.

Good questions! The equipment was provided initially under contract. Back in Oct/06 when I canceled my contract, I wrote BEV "... and instructions regarding the disposition of the equipment." The only response I received regarded the return of the HD box. They abandoned the dish & the 4100 receiver. As far as I'm concerned, I own it now. Just out of curiosity, couldn't a new owner of the receiver just plug & play?

Good estimate on your part. I just looked up past sales of 4100s on ********. The range is CDN$58 to $99 with shipping included. Maybe it is worthwhile advertising it for sale on the buy & sell thread.

Thanks for your input.

Doubt it - would have to contact BEV to get it authorized on their account and that's when it would likely become known whether you or BEV owned it. If you do want to sell it, you really can't avoid contacting BEV again to ensure the receiver is no longer associated with an account so a purchaser won't have any problems getting it authorized on their BEV account. I know when I've bought used receivers I actually call BEV in the middle of the transaction to ensure there won't be any issues with getting it set up on my account.

If your account is still active, the receiver might still beactive too...if the person who bought it just plug it in he would get YOUR programming. Also if he orders PPV they will get billed under YOUR account

If your account is deactivated you still have to call ExpressVu to advise them that you gave away the receiver or sold them, oterwise the client won't be able to activate it. At the time they will also let you know if it was a rntal unit that needed to be returned. If that was the case, you would have received an invoice, a few weeks after the account was closed, charging you 84$ for non return of equipement
