Default SportsCentre in HD - Launched 09/25

TSN announced today that they will be switching their nightly Sportscentre program to HD in September.

With the addition of SportsCentre in HD, TSN now projects that by September 2006, nearly 50 per cent of its broadcast schedule will be presented in High Definition for broadcast on TSN HD.

Even though it's far away, it's nice to know it's coming. Good work, TSN. I switched to watching Sportsnet a few years ago. I'll be switching back in September.

If SNET would only go full HD, and not just 16:9SD (which I have no problem with), there would be 2 dedicated HD sports channels in Canada.
And SNET, get 5.1 already!

This is great news! I like SportsCentre much better then SportsnetNews, but have been watching that because of the 16:9 format...

Thumbs up

Presumably this will also give TSN the capability to present its other studio productions such as pre-game shows, That's Hockey, The Reporters, etc, in HD as well?

In a related development, it appears Dome Productions will have a third HD mobile ready for service by April, joining its other units, "Majestic HD" and "Horizon HD."

You still have to give credit to Snet, they're WS in SD does look very good. That being said also like TSN better but watch Snet news because it's WS.

I will be switching back to TSN Sportcentrein the fall/

Looks like TSN is BY FAR ahead of Snet when it comes to HD.
- NHL Hockey Games, not all games, but at lease there's some
- World Juniors was simply amazing.
- And now Sportscentre

Good Job TSN

Any idea how many in Canada in total? We've seen games (CFL and hockey) from Vancouver and Edmonton, HD hockey from Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto, everything (CFL and Blue Jays) from Rogers Centre (skydome).

CBS recently mad a big deal about how much a unit for NFL games cost, and why they only have 3. ABC reported had 4 units to do the Super Bowl that they lease or sub-contract from a third party.

Just curious, because this is the limiting factor in getting all games in HD.

CBC has 1 (and can't get that 2nd soon enough IMO). Dome has 2, with a third in production as Nels mentioned below. April rollout.

The reason Sportsnet News looks really good is because the cameras they use are in fact HD cameras, however their control centre is not equipped for HD, so the cameras are downconverted to SD to create the production, and then the signal is reupconverted to HD.

I used to watch The Score because of the ticker, but now that TSN and Snet have they're own ticker I rarely watch it.

One way I don't think they have the budget to go HD, but how can they not afford to go HD if Snet and TSN will both be.

On a side question, anybody hear about RDS HD?
