Default Sound Dynamics by Energy

Well, I was in Costco today and came across a Sound Dynamics by "Energy" sub. It is an 8 inch sub, with a 80 watt RMS amp. and a fixed crossover at 120 Hz. I decided to pick it up and try it out for $180 CDN and based on Costco lenient return policy.
So far it is just OK, being an 8 ich it certainly lacks the "boom" I am used to. I still need to play with it some more though.

My question: Does anyone know anything about Sound Dynamics or have any experience with this unit?

"Does anyone know anything about Sound Dynamics...."

At one time they were not affiliated with Energy, and they had a quite extensive product offering. I owned a pair of one of their larger 'bookshelves' back in the 80's. Didn't keep them for long. Found them to be a sort of Canada's answer to the US's Cerwin-Vega's -- loud, not accurate.

Until your post, had thought the brand had disappeared.

I've had a pair of R-65's for close to 10 years. I don't listen to music much but they sound all right when I do; of course, they're powered by Denon, so that's probably got a lot to do with them sounding good.

I worked for a time in the mid-90s at Audio Products International, which is the parent company to Energy, Mirage, Sound Dynamics, Athena, and possibly a few other brands now. They make good speakers--as far as I'm aware they are the largest consumer speaker manufacturer in Canada. Their high-end products have won many awards and are often featured prominently in the hifi type magazines.

All that to say that it is likely a relatively decent product for its size.

pjreid .... I couldn't agree more with what you said re: Canadian-made loudspeakers "in general". I have owned several of the brands you named (and some others, including PSB and Mirage, that you didn't mention), over the 40+ years I have been "dabbling" in hi-fi, stereo, home-theatre, and related equipment. I was just providing an opinion based on 'my' listening experiences. Cheers!!

Sorry, you did mention Mirage in your list. I can still 'hear' better than I can 'read' at times!!
