Default Eastlink Time Shifting?

Greetings,

I have been using Eastlink digital cable since it came out in the spring of 2000 and now have their $99 cable/Internet/phone package. I pay $33 more on top of the $99 to get TMN/Moviepix and all of the new diginets. I find this an especially sweet deal since the Internet service is completely uncapped unlike the Aliant DSL alternative here. I regularly get 4 Mbps down and 1 Mbos up on speed tests.

The only thing that I want and don't have is time shifting of networks. The only time shifting currently available on Eastlink is with the WB network on the NYC and LA superstations. Does anyone know if Eastlink has any plans to implement Western feeds of other US networks in the near future? I am wondering whether this feature alone warrants looking at switching to sattelite?

Well it will cost you. As you've already determined, you're getting a good deal from Eastlink.

The need for time-shifting is a personal one. Some people love it while many stick with the local stations and never bother with it.

If you're considering satellite and time shifting is important then I'd consider Bell because of the 5100 (Bell's PVR or Personal Video Recorder). The 5100 even makes time shifting a bit moot because you can record your shows and watch them next hour while jumping through the commercials.

I sent an email to Eastlink customer service asking if they have any plans to implement time shifting. Hopefully with Rogers, Shaw and other cablecos already offering this option, Eastlink will soon follow suit.

I got a response from Eastlink; they said they are working on getting timeshifts and should have it by the end of 2003. I wish it was sooner, but there isn't much I can do.
