Which antenna are you using and how high is it mounted? Are you using an antenna rotator? I have tried a pre-amp before but that didn't help. Just wondering if I should go to a 8bay antenna.

I have a 4221 (the original one, not the HD one) over 100' of RG6. My preamp (Kitztech) is currently at the wrong end, simply because I'm a little busy & it works fine there, so no rush.

The 4221 is pointed between Buffalo & Batavia (Batavia is where ION/QUBO come from), I use a separate antenna for Toronto. Both are about 35' off the ground.

I don't use a rotor, each antenna has it's own dedicated cable & plugs into a different tuner.

If you're going to use a rotor the 8 bay would be good, since I don't, I like the 4bay since it has a wider field of view (or whatever that's called for antennas).

I'm currently using an antenna made from <cough cough> coat hangers for CN tower stations & it works great.

Brave of you to admit that, but if you recommend it here we'll all be wondering if you've been having a bit too much extra strength cough syrup.

It's really hard to join two antenna's unless one is UHF and the other VHF, I wouldn't go there. If you must, you're in for hours of reviewing how-to posts on this website.

How do I get the bones out of a, um, whitefish? They're impossible to eat.

Joining 2 or more antennas is covered in Post #16 of the OTA FAQ:

#1 solution will be to move the antenna outside. Any chance of that?

If you have a long cable run or lots of splits you may need a preamp or distribution amp.

Roof mount isn't the only option.. Tower, Pole, Wall, etc.

White fish,

Antenna in the attic is hit and miss situation...What are the channels have poor reception at your locations? Any chance of mounting your antenna to the side of the house?

Real men don't put antenna's in their attic. There are plenty of options for getting an antenna on your roof & as far as I know none of them involve actually putting a hole in it.

White fish,

For 11.1 or 36.1, you need height for your antenna and some careful aiming to get it.

51.x needs a second antenna with powerful 'beam' because it is located too far from our location. However, with good tropo these days you may get it with just one antenna.

Here is what I used, CM4221 for Buffalo/Toronto/Hamilton channels.
91XG for 51.x and 21.x channels.

An OTAer down my street use CM4221 and a CM4228 for 51.x and 21.x.

To get 11.1 you need to rotate the antenna west, and to get 51.1,2,3 you need to rotate the antenna east. (Rock < you < Hard place)

If you move outside you may find the extra gain gets them both without any extra work. If not, as kooguy mentioned you could rotate a bit west and pickup 11.1 with your current antenna and put up a second antenna for the Rochester stations, or you could install a rotor.
