Good - But be careful, there are a lot of crappy clones out there.

Good advice about clones; I'd certainly want to see it in factory-sealed packaging!
BTW, Max, do you get CH where you are? We're thinking of orienting our CM towards Buffalo, figuring the CN Tower stations will be strong enough to be picked up on the side lob. Our two question spots are CKVR Barrie and CH Hamilton. I'm in Richmond Hill, so I'm a bit lower than you. I'm wondering if I'll need a second, directional antenna, mounted above the 4228, to get CH? |

Using an 8 bay Antra bought from a local place in Richmond Hill (from ebay) at Yonge & St John's Sideroad I can get the following with the antenna in the bedroom (may get more once it's moved to attic).
2-1 2-2 2-3 3-1 off the backside if I point east a bit 4-1 5-1 7-1 9-1 19-1 23-1 25-1 41-1 47-1 49-1 49-2 57-1 66-1 69-1 I've been running only half as a 4-bay and was getting about 5-6 stations. Now with the full 8-bay I'm pleasantly surprised. I switched to the full 8-bay to see if I could get 9.1 and it worked! (I had lost it on the 4-bay after transition) |

I get Barrie all the time in the 90 + percent signal range....All off the back of my 4228's. Anyone closer to KevinB getting any of the above with a 4228 or similar? |

I have a similar situation to Humbar's. CKVR is coming in off the backside of my C5 and on non-tropo days it's easily in the 80-90% signal strength range. If any of the Rochester stations begin to appear, you can count on CKVR being gone (but too strong to allow WHEC to come in). Spin the C5 to the north and CKVR is 100% receivable, but then you lose CHCH.
Before the changeover, WHEC was my strongest Rochester station. I haven't seen it once since CKVR went live. The same situation applies with Channel 7 Midland blocking reception of WBBZ and on rare occasions, Channel 67 Muskoka (rf23) blocking ION. Interestingly, CKCO does not seem to interfere with reception of WHAM. I have to aim straight at Kitchener to get even a sniff out of CKCO or Global 6.1. |

Interesting. You're a good jog North of me but if your C5 picks it up on the rear, it's strong for you.
I have a C5 pointed at Hamilton in my attic, but it's getting nothing for 3.1 at the moment. I haven't tried pointing the C5 at Barrie. I suspect I'll have to gang the C5 with something else if I want them both. |

I'm looking for some advice from anyone with knowledge about OTA reception at Davis Drive and Huron Heights. Specifically, the smaller apartment buildings on Huron Heights across the street from Huron Heights High School.
I have a friend that was getting about six analog channels before transition and is getting nothing now after transition (because of no digital tuner). Facing north on top floor (about four floors). http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...8387472e2cd052 Limited to use of an antenna indoors. One question I have, is anyone in that area able to get CFTO Toronto CTV on rf9 post-transtion using a UHF-only antenna like a Channel Master 4221hd? Anyone think it might work? My friend already has an indoor set of rabbit ears and I could use a UVSJ to join the two antennas if needed. If my friend is willing to live with a 4221hd in the apartment, then my guess is that the 4221hd holds out the best hope of decent indoor reception OTA in Newmarket. Anyone have experience with this area and indoor antennas for digital TV?

Kevin:
You may well need a separate antenna to maximize CHCH reception. I'm a little north of you and my C5 (VHF-Hi) picks it up quite easily unless you aim in the opposite direction. Also, I don't know what web sites you looked at, but our sponsor Save & Replay sells the 4228 for $99, not $150 as you had mentioned, and the CM7777 is $95, not $205. Good luck. |

This is the my first post. Hope I'm doing it right.
I'm on the first floor, north window (damn), McCowan and Hwy 7 in MARKHAM. I'm using an indoor 1970's loop antenna attached to my ceiling from a plant hook. The small antenna unfortunately has a bump in the loop where it once got squished. Excellent: 5.1 CBC 19.1 TVO 25.1 CBLFT 41.1 Global 69.1 Omni Mostly excellent, but occasionally temperamental: 9.1 CTV Generally good, but not always there: 23.1 CW (US station) 57.1 CITY 47.1 Omni If conditions are right: 2.1 (NBC) 2.2 (NBC sports) 2.3 (NBC RTN) Less often, but when I get it the quality is oddly excellent: 4.1 (CBS) Rarely: 7.1 (ABC) Only once (thus far): 17.1 PBS 17.2 PBS 17.3 PBS 49.1 Cool TV (US) 49.2 Cool TV (US) I have never gotten 11.1 (CHCH), 36.1 (CTS) or 66.1 (Sun). Last night 4.1 (CBS) came in stronger then several Canadian stations. Last edited by Jase88; 2011-09-13 at 06:36 PM. Reason: Correction to post as requested |

I am at Yonge & 16th. I have a DB8 mounted on top of my 2 story house with a rotor, about 10 feet up from the top of the roof. I get all Buffalo, Toronto, and often Rochester. Barrie however does not come in at all. Even when pointing straight at it. It is strange because analog 3 used to come in just fine. Jeremy |

Looking at TVFool, I am half way (give or take a mile) between Barrie and the CN Tower....So it makes sense why I am nailing CKVR of the back of my (mostly) UHF antenna. It also makes me happy that I solidly receive the Buffalo stations even though it says I probably shouldn't get them all.
It probably doesn't hurt that I have a dual (original style) 4228 stacked combo at 85' either....although I have a hundred or so very tall trees to get over which made that height necessary. The TVFool report still said some of my strong channels would be iffy even though I did punch in my 85' mounting height. |

Guys asking for reception in Aurora,
Yes i am this area close to Conover Ave and Spring Farm Road, I have 4 bay antenna in Attic and catch 15 channels, I am just struggling with 9.1 after recent switch, I am thinking to get 8 Bay which can go in from the attic door. Last edited by letstry; 2011-09-15 at 01:18 PM. Reason: For Aurora |

I'm in Richmond Hill (Elgin Mills and Yonge area) and using a stealth antenna. I used to get CHCH 11.1 (one of the strongest signals) and CTV 9.1 (temperamental) all the time, among others, but since the analog signals were discontinued on Sep 1st, these digital signals have disappeared altogether (zero strength). It seems they did something to the digital transmission (either strength or location) but I can't find anything about this on Google.
Does anyone know what's happened? |

quickcurrent...CHCH and CFTO moved from UHF to VHF (9.1 & 11.1). That is why you do not receive them any longer. From what I understand, as well, is that CHCH reduced their signal strength so much in the transition to VHF that many people still do not receive their signal. You will have to get a VHF antenna to pull them in, or an antenna that combines VHF and UHF.
