Default Strange glitch with SA8300HD

When I power on my STB first thing in the morning I can't use the buffer (buttons REV, Pause, etc don't work) until I change the channel.
This is only happening when box is off for extended time because if I switch it off and turn back on shortly everything works ok. Tried to reboot, same problem. Any idea what could be the problem ?

How long are you waiting before you try? Maybe the system needs a minute or two before it can stream the buffered content.

Are you using HDMI connection and are you sure the unit is on when you try to use the buttons?

It could be on for 15 minutes and as soon as you not change the channel you can't use buffer. If I power off the box and power back on I can use buffer within seconds I don't need to wait several minutes.

I'm using HDMI connection and I'm sure 100% that the unit is on (if you see the picture on the screen I think the unit is on, right )

It happened to me once when I was watching NFL games. However it was not right after the STB was powered on. I watched a FOX game until halftime (I usually do a lot pause/rewind/slow motion during a football game ), and then I switched to a CBS game to watch the halftime show, and that was when the problem happened: if I rewind or ff or pause/play, it always went back to a point and would not go beyond that point, but live button still works. I did have enough record space at that time. The problem was gone after I switched to another channel then switched back, and has never happened again. Really weird.

IT's funny, every time I think we've listed all the flaws with this beast, another comes up. Yes, this is another flaw that happens to me quite regularly. I hadn't noticed it up to about a month or two ago and its happened about a dozen times. I don't think the problem stems from how long it has been since the unit is on. I think it relates to the first action you take with it since it has been turned on. Mine is set to turn on every monrning at 7:00 a.m. and is therefor on all day until I use it. I can't say it happens every time but there are many times when I've switched to it (I have two TiVos that I use more frequently) and I find something on the TV that is interesting that I cannot pause, rewind or fast forward. But, I have found that you don't have to change channel to force this functinoality on. You can just pull up the menu and then exit the menu and futz with the buttons and you can usually get them working (but not retrospectively) . When th is happens I can ONLY pause from that point on, I can't rewind back even if the unit has been on all day. At best I can only rewind to the point in the show where I got the functionality working again.

In my case it depends for how long the box was off - it doesn't work when I switch it on first thing in the morning and coming from work. It workes fine if I switch it off for 3-5 minutes and then power back on.

Tested more, everything works only if box powered off for 1-2 minutes, if more then that it doesn't work.

Mine works only after channel change of if I start recording the programm. However record button doesn't work directly, you need to go to IPG to start recording.

Same problem over here.

I need to chage the channel to be able to use REW, STOP, FF, REC...

It's a pain because when I'm watching a show, sometimes I say: "this is pretty good, I'll tape that!" but nothing works. I have to change the channel, which results in losing the buffer, so I can't record the entire show.

So I assume this is a buffer problem.

I stand corrected. I tested it again and you guys are right ... ONLY changing the channel turns the buffer on. I thought I remember hitting menu/guide etc. and exiting worked in the past but it isn't now.

Update:

I found that I don't even need to switch off the box to loose the ability to use buffer, I just need to switch off the TV (STB stays on). When I turn TV back on - buffer is gone and I can't use any buttons as I described in first post.

I think this is something to do with HDMI connection between my TV and the box, I guess buffer is getting lost during initial HDMI handshake

I don't think many use HDMI. When we do there always seems to be some glitch - which is the reason Rogers says it is unsupported. "Works for some, but not all".

In my set up the component cables work fine, so I stopped worrying about HDMI.

Ghost: I sometimes have the same problem. I use an HDMI cable as well. It hasn't happened very often and changing the channel always gets it working again.
