Help your fellow *c subs to receive THEIR very own BC code by telling Starchoice about its worthwhileness or not.
You can select multiple answers to best describe your situation. Try and answer 1 from 1, 2 & 3 and 1 of 4 or 5 and 1 of 6 & 7. Seems they may have discontinued BC code because, as expected, if you liked it, nobody said so. Now the rest of us have to suffer. Last edited by ARR; 2006-01-05 at 03:43 PM. |

I didn't realize this was a "Check ALL that apply". I only selected 'one' choice when when more than one applied.
Oh, well. |

Then tell everybody what you would have selected.

I called and asked for BC and have been very happy with it, although not quite perfect. I had to convince the TSR to give me the download but I'm glad I did. We are miles ahead of square one back in May.
I think everyone should have BC, or at least all those that know enough to ask for it. Perhaps SC is scared of dealing with a bunch of new phone calls because "something changed", they have to market to the lowest common denominator after all. All and all I wouldn't give up my machine and am very happy with BC, at this point I have a world of patience to iron out remaining wrinkles and add new features as I am sure they will. (well generous patience anyway P.S. I chose 1,4,&7 Last edited by Egghead; 2006-01-05 at 05:35 PM. |

I received it over the holidays while I was away.I didn't have much time to play around with it yet,but my first impressions are very good. I chose #1- 4 & 7 to the survey.Would recommend it to be used until they get all the bugs out.

A lot of cool features with BC. More solid than previous releases. Though most would not agree, I think *C made the right call to beta test it with 500 users. They would use the feedback to iron out any issues and provide a more stable build. Hopefully going forward, it would not be a random selection of 500 users but a choice provided to subscribers.
I have had issues with BC too....but go back to A8...never... |

I'm on BC and just voted. I don't understand why they are not releasing the new code to everyone. Yes, there are problems with it but is so much better than before. I have felt so relieved since I got that code update. Last week I posted a couple of problems that I have with BC. It sure beats the 20+ problems I was experiencing with A8. It's crazy not to release BC to all. I would like to have it 100% working too but BC is better than keeping A8.
This does not surprise me though. Take a look at this post I made prior to getting BC. http://www.digitalhomecanada.com/for...7&postcount=76 |

I wouldn't go back to A8. I'm very happy with BC, even if it isn't perfect.

It's funny that 10% found BC worse than A8, yet none of them would go back to A8.

I was one of the lucky ones that had relatively few problems with A8. I learned to not try too many skips, or FF's during live TV as this seemed to be where my receiver had it's biggest problem. If I was carefull I almost never had to reboot. After getting BC it appears that the problems I had with skipping ahead or back or FF during live TV had been corrected, I also like the new go-to feature that was added. However my receiver now locks up more then it did with A8. I haven't figured out what causes the lockups, but it usually starts by changing channels and having the banner not match the channel it is tuned to. Shortly after that happens, it stops responding to the remote. It has done this to me about 6 times during the 3 weeks that I have had the code. I can live with it, and BC is a step forward, but locking up during a normal channel change is a major bug. Perhaps this is why they have delayed the mass download. So as far as the poll goes I guess I would have to add the comment that for me, BC locks up more then A8, but I'll keep it and wait for the next one.

I have the same experiences has jcol, problem is these lockups all seem random and that makes troubleshooting harder.
What I've noticed is that the machine is getting worse, the lockups are increasing and I attribute that to the fact that the HD space is getting smaller. I have now too much stuff to be able to watch quickly to clear the dvr list, but I've noticed that when the disk was empty the 530 worked much better, lockups were far and between, now with the disk I would say half full, they are more constant. Could it be because as the disk gets full, the access time, reading time, whatever, increases and the either the software simply doesnt have checks, mechanisms to wait/confirm for the reply/completion of the command or the disk becomes too slow and this is what causes problems? Sometimes when the machine crahes and after a reboot I see a ghost entry in the dvr list, with zero seconds length from the channel it was on before crash. This is imo the lod tuner that failed somewhere and crashed the machine, which would confirm my statement... |
