Default Bookshelf speakers

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good pair of front bookshelf speakers, plus a good center,I am thinking of upgrading from my Polk Audio R15's.They're nice, but keep hearing that they are best served as a surround speaker,so would like something with abit more "punch".Would like to go with towers but the room is only 242 sq. ft.not huge, plus limited on the room for towers, and wife does not like those "big ugly" speakers, bet some of you guys can relate to that....lol.
Any help would be appreacheated.

Ed, What's your price range?
What are you using to power the speakers? Maybe brand/model or better 60, 80 or 100 watts per channel?
Are going to use a subwoofer? Most bookshelf speakers will not get you the bass some people crave.

I am using the Energy Connoisseur Series speakers, and I am very happy with them.

I am using a Yamaha 6.1receiver rated at 80w per ch.,and yes I have a sub. a PSW 404.I have the same R15's in front as in back, and want to upgrade the fronts,I would imagine it will entail a center channel upgrade as well.As far as price I was hoping not to spend any more that around $400 or that area on the fronts,Cdn. that is.

I highly recommend the Axiom M22Ti for a bookshelf speaker. I've been through a lot of speakers and I love the sound of these. They have an very smooth midrange and accurate top end, and with two drivers they are capable of decent bass as well. You can get smaller speakers (M3 and M2) with a single driver if size and/or price is a concern, but you won't get as much on the bass end of things.

They also sell a couple of centres along with towers, surrounds, etc.

Very good quality speakers at a reasonable price. They are a Canadian company that only sells online. Have a look at their online forum at

Wow WestCDA,I looked at the Axiom M22Ti's and my jaw hit the floor. They're awesome looking bookshelves, thought they were towers at first glance,I would assume that my center channel speaker would have to be upgraded as well,it's the match for the R15's...the CSi20.Probably the VP100 would be the match?Do they handle Concert DVD's as well as movies equally as well?Just wish there was a dealer close by so a guy could hear and compare to the M3ti too see just how much difference there is.My room is 11 X 22 ft. so not a large room to fill with sound, just don't want overkill.

Im currently using Athena's, and i love em.

The bookshel's are the Audition Series 2, AS-B1, and the center AS-C1.2, and i really like them

You should be able to snag them for about 400$ cnd for the pair plus center...

The VP100 is an excellent match for the M22's, or even the M2's, as they all use the same size of titanium tweeters and aluminum drivers.

The M3's use a bit larger driver, so have a slightly different sound according to people who've heard both. I've just heard the M2's, M22's, and M60's, VP150, and QS8 surrounds.

If you were going to get stereo only, then the M3's would be a good bookshelf choice - but if you're going to match a centre I'd personally stick with using the matched drivers on the other speakers.

They are an excellent speaker for movies, and incredible with music. They are very detailed, so they will show a poor recording for what it is, as well as make the good ones sound their best.

As for listening to them, post a message on the Axiom boards to see if there's someone nearby who will let you hear them. A lot of that goes on there ...

Thanks for the info West.I get your drift,it's better to have same driver size across the front than bigger size in the center than L & R front.I'll check out the Axiom site for posts to see if anyone around my area has them.

Thanks again
