I just got a new 62" DLP Toshiba. Hooked up the DSR 530 via the DVI connection and find lots of jitters every few seconds, also it will go to a black screen for 1-3 seconds every once in a while. Also find problems playing back recorded shows. I have had this receiver since June running on an older tv with S-Video with none of these picture problems.
Is there something I need to do to make it work properly or will I have to go and get a component cable? Is the picture quality worse or the same using component over DVI? I know its not the TV as I have watched dvd's via the DVI and it worked perfectly. |

DVI will eventually get fixed in 2006 sometime. Some sets work well, others don't. They just have to extend the compatability some more. Theoretically, with a DLP, being a fixed pixel device, the picture may be better, but that was never the design intent of DVI. Chances are you will be more than pleased with the COMPONENT outputs. |

Check to see what software version you have on your 530 (Options 6-4-7). If you have A8 you will likely experience problems.
I was lucky enough to get the latest 530 update (00.BC) just last week and since then my DVI connection has been flawless. Before that I was using component. I have a fixed panel display (LCD) and I notice a slight improvement when going to DVI from component. Just wait until you get the new software which is rumoured to be the first week of January. |

OK, thanks ARR.
SMP01: I do already have the 00.BC firmware, I was hoping the dvi issue was fixed as I had not heard of anybody having problems with it anymore. Guess I was wrong it was just everybody went to component. |

I've heard that you have to unplug the tv and 530 from the power outlet and then connect the DVI cable and then plug everything back in and turn the tv on first and then the 530. Something like you'd do when hooking up a monitor to a computer.

I'm using the DVI connection on my 530, and I haven't had any problems. I have a Hitachi 42" Plasma display. I'm currently using mode 0000.
That said, I had success with the DVI port under A8 as well. When connecting the cable, I did take the precaution of disconnecting the power from the 530.

Even with the new BC code, my DVI jitters and goes black for a second every now and then. It has improved since the A8 version, bit it is still not working up to snuff. I have a Toshiba DLP TV 52" 2005 model. I have resorted to watching TV through the component cables. It's much more stable than DVI from the DSR530.
Nin72 - it is not a problem with your TV. |

I have now connected the component cable that came with the 530 and have had no problems for the past 2 hours. I dont notice much of a quality difference compared to the DVI cable once I calibrated the TV. |

The difference is quite minute between the DVI and component cables. Granted the DVI should be working. Like ARR said earlier, they are working on it for 2006. In the meantime we can use component.
I have the 52HMX85 model. It's an awesome television. I love everything about it. |

Kevin270 & nin72:
I've got a Toshiba 52HM84 and have the exact same problems with the DVI connection that you are describing and have also resorted to using the component cables. |

I have a Sony KFE50A10 and a Starchoice 505 - using an HDMI/DVI cable - the picture is beautiful! But whenever I switch to the HDMI input, I have to reboot the 505 to get a picture. And if I switch inputs, and go back, I have to reboot the 505 again. I hope this is something that will be fixed with the next software release. I mean, the whole point of remotes is that you don't have to get up off the couch

I just picked up the 505 and was thoroughly dissapointed when my Toshiba 34HF83 wouldn't handshake with it over DVI. I appreciate that the difference in picture quality with my directview-tube would have been virtually non-existent, but both of my component video inputs were already in use.

I have the 505 and a viewsonic 27" LCD using the DVI inputs and it works great. I had both component and dvi hooked up to compare and couldn't find much difference, but, I wanted my dvd player on the components so the DVI was the best choice. no problems to date.

Have you hooked it up and then front-panel reset the 505? Alot of people seem to be making that work.

I also have one of the new Toshiba: 52HMX85 How have you hooked up your DSR530 to your TV? The 52HMX85 does not have a DVI connector. I bought a HDMI to DVI converter on eBay, but reading this thread I sort of regret it... My problem is that the 52HMX85 only has 2 component outs. I have my DVD player in one, and my Xbox in the other. I'm flat out of component ports! Thanks. |
