Some months back I had a problem with the old 6412 not playing recordings that show on the list. The recordings show 60 minutes, but if I try to click Play or any other button that involves the recording, I get the Delete file dialog. It is like the end-of-file tag has been placed at the beginning of the file. It has started again with a recording of Bones the other night. I know there was some discussion about it, but I could not find it by searching.
Does anyone have an answer on how I can recover and play these hidden recordings, or is my box defective? Thanks. |

I had this problem with Taking Lives (movie central) the other night. No play, only delete, so I deleted it.

Instead of selecting play try selecting the start program from the beginning option and see if that works. Unplugging and plugging in the box seems to fix allot of issues also.

I have had this happen to very frustrating, it seems to happen the most on time-shift digital channels for me.
I haven't had it happen for a while, but unplugging and letting it sit for a moment then letting it reboot i could play it again. Seems like a good reboot will fix things, just to-bad it takes so long to reload the system.

I tried unplugging the box for a few minutes, and I also tried the other buttons, such as play from the beginning or advance and in all cases the delete option pops up.
I guess it is some kind of bug. I just now cleared the hard drive following instructions I found on another thread. Maybe that will work. It is a nuisance though, because all my favourites and series recording lists are gone, so I have to build my databases again. |

I wonder is it part of the copy protection problem listed in
http://www.digitalhomecanada.com/for...ad.php?t=34604 THis problem seems to effect the recordability (at least to external devices) of all digital channels - not sure from thread whether it effects the analog channels Can you try to record 1 min of programming from each of and let us know: an analog cahnnel in basic pack (eg CBC ?Ch3) a digital channel (e.g. Sportsnet East/West/Ont/Pacific or Fox Sports World) A HD channel non-5c+ve: e.g. 303 (ABC HD) A HD channel 5c+ve: e.g. 308 or 310 (Sportsnet or CTV HD) |

This also seems to be a problem when the box is too hot, something that happened to me recently.
Is your box in a cabinet or something that keeps the heat in? These PVRs get incredibly hot and that seems to corrupt the drive or something. I actually had to have my box replaced because of it. |

No, I follow these threads, so I made sure my box was sitting wide open with good ventilation. There is one thing I do though, I turn off the box most nights when I go to bed, I don't know if that is part of the problem.
I will try recording some sample programs, but since this problem only shows up once in a blue moon, it probably won't show up in the tests. I went a spell last Spring where I ended up deleting about 5 recordings due to the problem, but this time only one so far. Normally I only record HD channels. The problem this time was Bones on FOxHD. Last Spring it was both ABCHD and CBSHD I think. |

[QUOTE=talljak]I haven't had it happen for a while, QUOTE]
Well I guess I should of knocked on wood. Cuz last night I was watching under-siege 2 on showcase action and about 3/4 of the way through it just said delete recording. I watching it about 30 minutes behind the air time so I could zip through commercials. Nothing I did made it work so I had to delete it.

This happens to me all the time, HD and SD programs. I have the 6412 P3.
No pattern that I can figure out. |
