Hey, I just installed a BEV 5900 in my room, before I got this new receiver I only had a television and dvd player. Whenever I would watch a DVD it was never a problem, I'd just flip over to Video-2 and sound and picture was perfect. Now that I have installed my 5900, Video-2 has now become S-Video. On chanel 3 and S-Video I can view all satelite channels, but now when I put my DVD player on I have no picture anywhere, I hear the DVD's sound on S-Video but no picture - it's just black. Upon installing my 5900 I didn't touch the DVD player whatsoever, is there anyway I can watch tv and dvds without constantly moving wires around? If I take the S-Video cable and connect it directly from my receiver to DVD I get picture but the quality is awful. I really hope you can help! Thank you
* Ideally I would like to be able to view both satelite and DVDs on S-Video. Please, if this is possible, let me know how!!! Thanks!!! |

But wouldn't that mean the new S-Video cable I buy would have to have one end rca's and the other end S-video? Where is the best place to find one? My television only has one plug for S-video and two rows for rcas, sorry to be such a pain i'm just completely clueless!

Can2kkc,
That being the case your choices are as follows: 1. Install S-Video to connect the Bell 5900 receiver to your SD TV, or, RCA yellow Video. 2. Install S-Video to connect DVD to your TV, or, RCA yellow Video 3. Switch cables when watching one or the other 4. Buy a S-Video switch box. The following one is able to handle 4 S-Video inputs and one output to your TV. And it's quite affordable: http://www.smarthome.com/8293T.html

That fourth option seems perfect! So basically all I do is plug an S-Video cable to the switcher from each my BEV receiver and my DVD player then connect one more S-Video cable to my television? I really appreciate all your help, I'd be lost without it!

How are you getting sound from both sources to the TV? Both by the RCA inputs to the TV? If so, I'd invest in an entry receiver with S-Video switching. Then your audio will also switch at the same time, and you could even add speakers to the receiver for better sound.
If your DVD has crappy video from the same S-Video cable, it's possible that the DVD has a switch for composite video or S-Video, typically on the back of the unit.

The problem is that you have both video cables connected to one input (video 2.) When this is done, S-video overrides composite video and the composite video input stops working. You just need to connect the devices to different inputs. Connect one to video 1 (video and audio) and the other to video 2 (video and audio.) You can do this with either S-video or composite video for each device. S-video will provide a slightly better picture.
