Default And you thought you were smart...(brain twisters)

I was digging through some old emails and came across the following...

http://freeweb.siol.net/danej/riverIQGame.swf

If you haven't seen this before you'll really enjoy it. I'd be curious to know how quickly ... or ... slowly ... some people complete it.

Here's a few rules to keep in mind:

1) Only 2 persons on the raft at a time.

2) The father can not stay with any of the daughters without their mother's presence.

3) The mother can not stay with any of the sons without their father's presence.

4) The thief (striped shirt) can not stay with any family member if the Policeman is not there.

5) Only the Father, the Mother and the Policeman know how to operate the raft.

good luck to ya - you might need it

did it in about 2mins.

If the game resest instead of allowing you continue it would have taken maybe double that.

Can someone put a solution please?
I cant see how it can be solved, unless theres a trick, otherwise its not possible with only two people on the raft.

It's doable. Just did it. Big hint: The thief can stay alone on either side of the river.

It's eminently doable.

Mouseover for the solution:

1. prisoner and policeman
2. policeman comes back
3. policeman and child (for simplicity's sake, a son)
4. prisoner and police comes back
5. father and son
6. father comes back

by now the children should be split.

7. father and mother
8. mother comes back
9. prisoner and policeman
10.father comes back
11.father and mother
12.mother comes back
13.mother and daughter
14.prisoner and policeman come back

... the rest is left as an exercise to the reader.

I'm glad to see that some people are enjoying this. If anyone else has a brain teaser, post it for us

I love this stuff. I have a few good ones but they are at home.

Here is one I remember from grade school.

Connect all the dots. You can not lift pen/pencil (anything). You can only use 4 lines.

The O's are the dots and the ........... are just spaces which should be ignored.

O........................O.......................O

O........................O.......................O

O........................O.......................O

Another fav. from school.

Three people check into a hotel. They pay $30 to the manager and go to their room. The manager suddenly remembers that the room rate is $25 and gives $5 to the bellboy to return to the people. On the way to the room the bellboy reasons that $5 would be difficult to share among three people so he pockets $2 and gives $1 to each person. Now each person paid $10 and got back $1. So they paid $9 each, totalling $27. The bellboy has $2, totalling $29. Where is the missing $1?

From Die Hard 3

You have a 3 gallon Jug and a 5 gallon jug. How do you get exactly 4 gallons of water in one of the jugs?

There's no missing $1. They should've paid $25, but ended up really paying $27 because of the greedy bellboy.
