Default Skype 2.0 Beta offers Video Calling

Skype, which last month was acquired by eBay, yesterday announced its long promised version 2.0 software which adds video calling and a toolbar for Microsoft Outlook that allows users to find and dial contacts with a mouse click.

Has anyone tried Skype video over a dialup connection?

Skype "normal" always cause'd my computer to lag so much that I ditched it and kept using MSN Messenger voice/video functions (which wasn't quite as bad)

Just my opinion

I use Skype on the road and I never had any problems with it even on dialup connections. I'm just wondering if the audio gets priority over video or does the video make a mess of the sound.

I just set up Skype 2.0 and it seems to work fine...I just spoke to someone in Singapore the audio is really clear. So has anyone tested the video yet ????

I used video between Italy and Canada. Both ends were high speed connections. One way works great. Two way caused Skype to crash on my home PC within a minute or so. This happened even with both PCs connecting over my home network. Picture quality and sound were quite good.

I use Skype/Video regularily between Ottawa and Lille, France (near Belgium) - both on HighSpeed links.

In most cases it works fine with a decent video refresh rate (1/sec by non-scientific observation). At times, the video update rate is slow (1/5 secs), but this can probably be attributed to congestion on the ISPs we are using or within the network elsewhere.. The audio has rarely been a problem. When there is one, we hang up and re-connect....

As for dialup, I really doubt it will work very well, the audio is going to take up 14K out of 56K (or whatever you have). That does not leave much for video - your refresh rate, if it works that is, is going to be slow...
