Drive-In Classics - maybe useless but probably safe because it is showing cheesy movies of the sort TCM rarely shows. Scream - safe niche Mystery - doesn't show that many movies anyway (although how they're able to show Andromeda on a Mystery channel is a mystery Bravo - there's already been some shift away from classic movies here; they'll be hurt by having commercials, helped if they can work with their artistic production niche. Silver Screen Classics - never seen it but by reputation, dead as a door nail. Lonestar - like Mystery doesn't show that many movies, certainly fewer than they did six months ago. Lots of old TV shows though. I confess, as someone who now has TCM I feel sorry for people who would like to have it but whose cable/satellite provider says there's no demand for it. |

I meant to imply that many of these Canadian speciality channels are a joke as to content and commitment, and, as I look over TCM's schedule for the coming few months, I see it will offer Canadian subscribers superior fare in every genre. |

I must admit i'm envious of you guys that have it now. I wish Rogers would have taken the plunge first and offered it up to its customers. Who know what their plans are regarding TCM at this point. TCM was always on my wish list of services. I think the best way for Rogers to offer it in their tier 2 is to replace Headline news with TCM and offer it, since its in the same tier as Family Channel. They could just put Headline News in the Digital news package. Very simple for them.

Yes, as a Rogers customer myself, I'm feeling quite deprived at this point. An e-mail response I got yesterday was encouraging though.
The rights issue problem is unfortunate. I notice that Yojimbo and some other foreign films, have been stripped from the Canadian schedule. That hurts. TCM has some anime movies, like Spirited Away and Porco Rosso, scheduled for January; now I wonder about the status of those. |

It's now on ch. 35 in Saskatoon. HGTV got moved down to 16. Spike got moved up to 30. TLN got bumped to 65. I can't remember what was on 65 . . . and I don't know where it got moved to.
My head hurts!

65 was Canadian Learning Television, now on 74. If it were a serious educational channel, I'd rather see it moved to analog where more people could see it, with the rather abysmal TalkTV moved to digital, but that's just my opinion. |

For those not familiar with TCM, a few things to look forward to:
31 days of Oscar. The entire month of March is dedicated to Oscar winning/nominated movies. Memorial Day weekend features several days of 24/7 war movies. |

I think its good that we are not getting a watered down version of TCM here, since most of the U.S. and Canadian Schedules are identical. This proves that if a U.S. cable station really wants access to the Canadian market that they can get the rights necessary, at least for most of their product. Hopefully the Crtc will license a few more popular stations like TNT, USA, F/X, Boomerang, Hallmark, and a few others.
