Well, to tell you the truth, I paid more for my remote than I paid for my receiver (a Yamaha RXV-2500 which was pretty decent at the time). What can I say, you would love it.

Arrow Form factor and buttons

I also don't like touchscreens much. I tend to prefer that the majority of regularly used controls (channels, navigation, number pad, guide, info, volume, menu, etc) be hard buttons. That's based on my experience with touchscreen remotes (I've owned a Microsoft/Harman-Kardon TC1000 and a ProntoNeo).
I acknowledge that buttons on an LCD screen are not like real buttons and that the 9600 is fairly large. I remember now that we exchanged a few messages on the topic about a year ago; I don't know if you have noticed that the 9600 has quite a few hard (real) buttons for the regularly used controls. I guess that the LCD disadvantage is outweighed by the advantages of the overall remote (in my case). That's the kind of decision that everyone has to make for himself. I'll tell you though, I would have a hard time letting go of all the functions I got used to with this remote.

The URCMX3000 is tops. Though I did have to spring for a new battery at one point - - a little sooner than I wanted too do.

I have a Boston A7RC (A Pronto NEO/TSU-501 on steroids), as well as two very long-in-the-tooth URC MX-500's, I bought the Boston, thinking I'd like the touchscreen and the ability to draw my own screens on the computer, transfer them to the remote and define the functions... But it seems I can't stand touchscreens afterall.

I have absolutely nothing bad to say of the MX-500's, they are still an astounding programmable learning remote.
